Hasn’t anyone driven a TDCI with 37” Maxxis Trepador “non” sticky comps??

...wanting to know what they would be like at speed on the road...from someone who’s actually driven with them!o_O

Toying with the idea of “Spectre”ing my 110 double cab....but can’t get away from the fact that I need to cover some motorway miles too.

Very noisy on road, and not a lot of surface friction dur to the aggressive tread pattern.
However, they are fairly good off road ... but at THAT price??:eek:

I use them on my 200tdi 90,
Not all that noisy on the road actually far less than simex I had before, balanced up ok but most places won’t even try to balance them, need fitting to wide offset wheels, mine are 10 inch wide mach 5’s. They effect the top speed but then again there only rated to 70mph so not really an issue.
Braking hard can be a problem due to the amount of sidewall on the tyres they tend to wander.
Excellent off road but beware you’ll need to uprate your shafts and cv’s along with the diffs as there brutal on the drivetrain

Thanks for the reply! What do you mean by brutal? Why do you need to uprate stuff? What happens if you don’t

They're bigger, heavier and carry way more momentum than the standard drive train was designed for, just hard braking from speed can cause issues.

Big, grippy tyres put a lot of load on the drivetrain and steering. Especially halfshafts, diffs, UJs, etc.

If you don't upgrade standard components, they will tend to break when you boot it.

Jeez....that sounds expensive!

What’s the rough cost of upgrading those components?

£1500 for tyres, similar for a set of wheels, £800 for the arches...costs are starting to mount if other stuff needs upgraded too:(

I’ve never driven one but have been driven in one. It had all upgrades done with no expense spared. The ride felt horrible. Wallowing all over.

Cheaper to do than to not and run the wheels cos breakage are expensive and inconvenient

around £3500-£4000 + the cost of wheels and tyres, and if its your daily drive id give it careful thought, oh car will need a 4inch lift as well with all the castor corrected parts fitting as well if your gonna do it properly, so budget another £1500-2000 for that

I would also question what it would be like on a daily driver for pulling away from junctions , hill starts etc. especially if loaded up?

Cheers

I don’t normally carry much weight and first gear is pretty much redundant with the BAS remap...normally pull away in second, so I guess it would just reintroduce 1st as a gear!:D

But it’s sounding like a bit of a mare to do!!!

I should be a James Bond /Land Rover fan!

There’s a few spectre replicas for sale on eBay. Why not go and check one out. I’m running 35’s. I’d love to go for 37’s but can’t justify the haste.

1st is redundant in all puma injun fenders!

The thing is .. The 'real' Spectre vehicles weren't just stock Landies with bolt on goodies, they were, underneath, properly seriously modded bits of kit (I have been told) so trying to look like one is only OK up to a point. Besides, films throw that amount of money away on coffee cups, let alone the coffee to go in them ....
