Hey. Just got my first Land Rover a 1998 Freelander (be nice) . Any tips on how to get this to go faster will be useful. I have never been overtaken by a lorry before .

Welcome to LZ, mate! :)

I have little experience of fast landrovers, and have often been overtaken by lorries, it doesn't bother me.

Think you might want the Freelander section for that one! ;)

Take no notice of the disco and rangey owners, their cars are very posh to sit in which they do a lot of, waiting for a recovery truck to get them home. What engine is in your Freelander? They are not sports cars, so they have limited top end speed.

It' the rover diesel engine. The one that sounds like a tractor and goes a little bit slower haha.

Diesel L series gaylander normally go quicker if chased by coppers or a gang of skinheads in a freelander petrol:rolleyes::D

It should be able to outpace a lorry, what mileage has it done and does it have a decent service history.

Col
It' on 140k has full service history. I think the vcu is failing don't know if that would slow it down. Also I took the pipe off the egr and that was blocked up so I cleaned that I didn' have the torque bits to get the valve off to throw it away :/

*runs off to buy tools*

LOL, A good idea, My tool collection has grown and continues to grow being a LR owner...LOL
Halfords do a good few different sets of sockets , if you knwo someone who has a trade card, then you can get them even cheaper, plus they now do a "motorist set" which has most things ever needed for the normal issues.

Hope you get to enjoy the freelander.

Cheers

If you think the vcu is failing that needs to be a priority or else it will get expensive. Search on here for the one wheel up test. A recon vcu with new bearings is about £280 from Bell engineering.

Thats my next job. If it is on its way out I think I am just going to take the prop out and run it like that.

Many do but it will cause it to be prone to wheel spinning at the front. It's a shame to have a 4 wheel drive car that can only manage 2 wheel drive. You might regret it if it snows in the winter.

I will eventually get a new vcu but it needs a few bits of the body work doing first and I want to somehow get a snorkel on it. (Just for looks). Have you ever tried a decat pipe on yours?

Having the vcu off can make the front skitty:p:D but that's down to wearing high heels and having the name Babs Cabs on top:rolleyes:. If your planning for greenlaning then make sure you budget for the replacement vcu.
