Are the Serial Numbers on the transmission/engine the VIN?

Hi Guys. Trying to import a D110 pickup and had a question about the serial numbers that are supposed to be original to the truck. Will they just be the same VIN as on the chassis? Or is it a different number that I'll have to contact Land Rover to figure out what they are supposed to be?

Thanks.

Take it by D110 you mean Defender 110? Or is that a Diesel One Ten? Much the same difference with the numbers anyway.

VIN on the plate under the bonnet. Chassis number stamped on front chassis leg, engine number on engine.

The VIN numbers are easy to de-code, plenty of guides on the innernet, and on the forum. Just search.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, a 1986 Defender 110 pickup. I've seen how to decode the vins, and I know where all the numbers to find are on the truck... my question is should the serial number on the transmission and engine be the actual VIN number of the chassis?
Thanks.

1986 isn't a Defender. Just a 1986 One Ten pick up.

Engine has a number stamped on the block, chassis, gearbox and transfer box have their own numbers stamped on them. VIN number is different.

Be very careful. All vin numbers have to match in all locations engine has to match also, as well as color to Vin ID, if axles, brakes, or any other items have been changed from the original date of birth for the vehicle........... Customs probably won't release it. But be very careful. Best advice is talk to the customs guys as to what is allowed and what isn't. They might give you some answers you may not want to hear.

Cool, thanks guys. Sent the wire for the rig and shipping today. If the stars align I should have it in my hands in about 4 weeks. Here's a pic of it if anyone cares:

Straight enough looking One Ten! Wheels are a bit cheap, and 7.50x16 tyres would finish the package nicely! :)

That should really stand out Stateside!

Best of luck with the import formalities.

Got it last night. Have a big laundry list of things to get working on but I love this thing. To put it in perspective... I have a 700hp 911 turbo in the garage and this truck is without a doubt my favorite of the two. I'll make a new thread and update how I get on with it.

I did think that
Look like freewheeling hubs. Usually found on series Landies and usually on the front.
I did think that but as they are fitted to all four corners I thought they probably weren't. They remind me of the hub centers found on some american and jap 4x4's but I don't know what they are either.

Do they have anything on them to lock them? I've just zoomed in on the image. Are they not just something stuck on for effect?
