Anyone who know or can measure the dimensions for the ball joint gaiters/rubbers on the P38?
Have a lower ball joint where the rubber has split, if I can change the rubber before the joint is full of sand, it will save me from a lot of trouble.

The bay is full off rubbers, but have to know what to order.
Thanks.

you can get gaiters but everyone ive gone to change has required joint changing when yoke was dropped it showed the worn joint

If your that deep in ball joints you can change the rubber....just change the joints. Heat up press out then new in before it cools. Can also check CV bearings steering etc.

I guess you could price up the cheapest after market joints and just use the boots off them if need to, I changed top and bottom joints both sides on mine end of last year but the old ones have long gone to check sizes for you sorry.

Yes both sides I found it very straightforward. I got a press kit from the bay( now sold) approached with great fear but it was really easy. Use the best quality joints (lemfjorder) and forget about it. What I remember of the press kit is it was very well made and shipped from this country via a Chinese eBay site. Once you'd sorted the correct cups it was simple. A garage round our way only charges £170 a side including cheap joints.

Sorry, my mistake l was thinking of track rod ends. As has been posted,if you strip it down just change the bail joints. Not a bad job if you have a press kit. Bit of heat to get the old ones out and put the new ones in the freezer overnight.

I remember you can't just do the lower one as the spindle for the press has to go through the hole created when the upper one is removed!( Or vice versa)

Changed my upper and lower ball joints a couple of months ago. Have put some photos on Photobucket but unable to place them on this site for some reason. Worked fairly recent on another subject? Job was very difficult as they must have been the originals. pm me with your email address and I will send them to you. show old, new joints together and completed job with new brake calipers and discs.

So difficult I bent the tool. The new joints went in ok after being in the freezer. Car is transformed as the old joints were in a very bad state. Will try photobucket again not sure what I am doing wrong?
Don't think its possible to put on new boots.
