L322 Anyone want to watch an L322 burn?

I have had it with this car. I have coveted a range rover since I first set eyes on one as a young boy in the early 80's. I have lusted after them. This year I was finally able to achieve my dream car.

And it has broken me.

I had a reasonable budget. I purchased way under that budget and had the extra money to do it up. I did exactly that. It's had a complete new gearbox. A new TC. New wheel hubs, new brake discs and calipers. New OEM everything.

I've taken that budget and blown way over it.

Now its developed a spontaneous electrical problem, a huge juddering on full lock both ways and a head light that works when it wants to.

I can afford to get it fixed, but I just dont want to. I hate this car now. I cant wait to see the back of it.

I genuinely wouldn't care less if it was stolen by the local pikeys and torched. The only thing I would be ****ed about is I am not there to watch it burn.

I loved owning her. I loved driving her. I loved the power, the luxury. Now I hate her. She does not deserve the money I've spent on her.

They say never realise your dreams as you will only be disappointed. Well I am.

Go easy mate....before you drop a lit match into the tank, allow some time to let the RR gurus on here help you figure out what's going on with it. It's a labour of love with these things, but they're amazing vehicles when they work right.

I've just gone out and read the fault codes on my scanner:

P0155 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
P0021 - Generic: "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 2)
P1300 - Catalyst damaging misfire multiple cylinders
P0305 - Cylinder #5 Misfire Detected
P0308 - Cylinder #8 Misfire Detected
P0306 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected

There were no faults earlier this week and I've driven it less than 15 miles since monday.

It's also worth noting the engine only had 20k miles on it when I bought it and I've only done about 5k since then.

Hi thats land rovers for you we all love them but they have a dark side, but when it is all fixed life will be good (until the next problem) you need the low points to help you really enjoy the times when all is good. Most young kids love the land/range rovers but it takes commitment to own a older one, when you are old you can say I had that range rover and it was sh## but I loved it, and may be you might be able to say you still have it if you are lucky

But there comes a time when you have to say enough. I bought her in February and have spent over £1000 per month getting things fixed since then. That does not include the £3k for the new gearbox. Everything mechanical was perfect. All I had left was a few cosmetic bits inside. With the money I've spent, I could have bought something new.

I'd forgotten you had Saint's old one. I'd have thought if you had a chance it'd be that one. I seem to remember @Saint.V8 having issues with a headlight on his that blew back through the CANbus system or something? Maybe he or @holidaychicken might have an idea?

I believe not, just a slush box mated to a transfer box and 2 non locking diffs.

Yep, got that.
There was a front diff recall in the early years although if the juddering is occurring whilst stationary then it's PAS related, imo.

good point, buggered pump or air from a leak maybe. its a shame our mate feels this way. I think id be a bit tits'ed off as well..

The first thing I did when I got it home was contact Land Rover to see if all the recall work had been done and they said it had.

The juddering is only on full lock, lessen off slightly and it goes away. It was too dark to look properly this evening, I will have another look in the morning. It is accompanied by a heavy knocking noise from within the engine bay, but I could not see well enough to even begin to know whats causing it.

When driving, its absolutely fine, until I pull up at a junction/lights. Then its noticeable again and judders slightly.

Ok here goes,I amsure someone will know what I am talking aboout, because it's going to be vague.I also had and sometimes still have a judder, on full lock, in reverse. I asked on here about it years ago and apparently there is some sort of weight somewhere,that can drop off or become unbalanced (like me) and causes the judder. I can't remember what it's called but as other more important things started happening, I have left it to it's own devices.
As for hating the car , I almost reached that point last year after almost two years of one thing after another,most caused by dodgy mechanics (human type not vehicle mechanics) .I even looked at a trade at the local stealers. However,after all the work,ALL the money (about £13k) and all the heartache,when I got her back,running as she should (just the odd tantrum.Like needing a jump start today as I left her for a fortnight!) I fell in love all over again.
There is a very steep learning curve with the Green Oval but they get under your skin. Which ends up one of two ways,you end up hooked and broke or you end up hating them forever, whilst still broke and comparing your new faultless, whatever marque,to it unfavourably every day.

I understand about owning a landy as I've had a freelander for more than 10 years. I was expecting to do some work on this one, but spending over a grand every single month since I've owned her is really ****ing me off. Thats not an average amount divided by the time I've had her, thats actual money out of my account every single month. No car on earth deserves that. At this rate I will be completely broke by the end of the year.

When I bought her I was budgeting double the purchase price for repairs. I've now spent more than 3 times that.
