Can you find out more info about an engine?

At the end of last year my engine blew on my beloved RR l332 petrol 4.4 V8 2004. I love it so much I couldn't let it go...

So, I bought a new engine on eBay which is now sat in storage. The write up about the engine suggests it's all good, but is there anyway I can find out more about it (to validate).

I'm thinking is there a unique code on it or anything similar?

Hoping all you experts out there may know or have some info!

Is it a NEW engine or a used engine ? If it was out of a car the peson who sold it to you should be able to tell you what milage it has done.
There should be an engine number on it somewhere.

As ovalandrover said, the ebay seller should be able to give you the mileage and service history of the engine. It's worth sending a message and see what they say,

Sounds like you might be as old as me

Ask the seller the reg number of the car it came from, he should have it. Then check MOT history.

If like you say it is new then grab the serial number and call a local dealer who should be able to give you details of manufacture ect.

Ruby, I doubt anyone on here would buy a new engine for a 2004 4.4V8 RR. That's something for 1st or maybe 2nd corporate owner/keeper or for LR to fit within initial 3 year warranty.
They are rare as hens teeth apparently and hear they cost north of £8k fitted.
I'd much prefer to think he's bought a used engine from a breaker.

A factory exchange 4.4 petrol is £15,326.00 plus £3,000.00 refundable service return charge. Unless he is David Beckham i think it may well be used second hand. To tell if it's any good you would need a strip and check or a crystal ball.

Is that plus or Inc vat
Where do they get there prices , add up the cost of every part as if from a dealer then add some and a bit more, your trousers would have to be round your ankles legs apart bent over for that one and it don't think it would ever stop hurting

Including VAT. Can't remember the exact details it's a while ago, but the main agents i worked for at the time built a Morris Traveller from stores for an enthusiast a couple of year after it went out of production. Think the sum of the retail parts to do it was around £4,500.00. More than four times the retail cost of a production car from the factory a couple of years earlier. That is a lot of pennies when you consider that the main dealers got 68% discount on spares from the factory at the time. And something like 40% discount on new vehicles for selling on. Margins may have dropped a little, but spares are a very lucrative part of a manufactures business. Why do you think the EU car firms have been lobbying the EU parliament to ban all none genuine after market parts for cars.
