And another 90 rebuild

I have just found the first of the rust. Once I removed the bumper the drivers side looked like this

But the passenger side looked like this

Not too bad really but there is a lot still to uncover.
That's not even a flesh wound :D Let's hope that's it o_O
If the electric fan is working I would take the viscous fan off. It's a left hand thread and you need a skinny spanner. You can buy special viscous fan spanners. You might be able to improvise, but not with LR tool No1 ;)

It is working but just from a switch on the dash. I will be sorting out some sort of stat for it before I am finished.

Cheers for the tip, I will remove the viscous fan. I guessed it wasn't doing much good as the blades are so short.

That's a nice bit of kit, dare I ask what you paid for it?
Make sure you get a stat for leccy fan before you take the viscous one off. Do you think the PO did some serious off roading to warrant the rock sliders and extra cooling?

I think they thought about it but am not sure they did much. All the gear and no idea I think. Some things like the bush wires that I removed on day 1. Just screwed into the wing by what looked like self tapping curtain hooks. I think a lot of it was for show but perhaps it has. No doubt I will see when I get further into it.

The impact wrench was about 160 quid. Well worth it already I think.

I would suspect the PO, might have taken the viscous off and had the leccy running full time, but have the ability to switch off if wading.

Nice impact wrench.

Cheers

I take it you had a battery or two anyway. Otherwise that was very cheap.

Cheers
Is that cheap?

Good shout. possibly put viscous back on to sell it, so leccy fan wasn't running all of the time.

The guy I bought it off only had it a few months. he had van sides on it and used it for his welding business. He found it too small so bought a transit instead. It came with van sides as well as the station wagon sides that were in the first pics. Also 2 spare doors which had been part repaired. So I have no idea who had it before and what they did with it. I do know from the HPI check I did before I bought it that it was a cat C write off about 15 years ago. It was then off the road for 10 years according to the MOT history then reappeared about 2011.

yes, that was the price for the bare unit.

Need a bit of help. I just took all the wheels off and got it on stands. I was planning on cleaning up the wheels and selling them as I want more traditional wolf like wheels. When I took them off I noticed the front ones have been ground out. I assume this is to fit the 90 standard hub. I think these wheels will be off a Disco as the engine and back axle are. This is the back of one of the front wheels

And this is the back of one of the unground back wheels

Is grinding out the wheel normal when fitting non standard wheels? Is it safe / legal?

The earlier 90s and 110s weren't designed for alloys, the later hubs have a slimmer drive flange (which isn't interchangeable) your rear axle being a Disco axle will take alloys.
I think Wolf wheels are a good call, but they are not the cheapest.

I'm just replacing my own front bumper and, although there is some flaking rust, I don't think that I need to do anything about it. I cleaner all the loose rust, have painted it with a rust treatment and left it as it is. You might just need to get a plate welded onto the front after cleaning all the crap out.
