The last valvoline stockist in my area is no more and the nearest is now 30 odd miles away. I need an alternative.
Motor factors in my nearest town stock Granville 20w/50 premium, and a range of Morris oils including golden film 20w/50 and golden film 15w/50 motorsport.
Both manufacturers give little information on their websites, so can anyone shed any light.
@jamesmartin and @wammers for instance.

morris is low detergent so id go for granville premium

Ok. Any idea about zddp? Or what quantity I need to look for when they start flying marketing guff over my head?
its a zinc additive liked for flat tappet engines due to the high tendency to wear unlike roller type followers, modern oils have less due to cats, you get more in diesel engine oil, and v8s could do with more detergent too imo

Don't have cats to worry about, just the don't want my lifters digging into my lumpy cam.
Just done a bit of googling and it looks like I'm after at least 1000ppm zinc and nearly as much phosphorus.

I'll quiz the rep and see what he says.

I can also get rock oil cheap from my hydraulics supplier. He has a decent range on the shelves. Got 25 litres of chainsaw oil for £30 recently

Can get millers at the same shop that sell the valvoline. Still miles away:(

I'm in the same situation, so ordered my last batch on line & took the hit for carriage as that was much cheaper than fetching the oil in the RR. Need to do the same later this year :(

We use Chevron Supreme 10W-40 DIESEL oil in our V8's, keeps them nice and clean and never had any problems.

Costco sell it in bulk.

Our V8 had a short motor fitted when we bought it, it has done just over 90k on that engine and the original heads, camshaft and followers. A new front cover/oil pump, camshaft, followers etc are ready to fit when we hit 100k miles.

Peter

PS: all are D2 Thor V8's.

My choice is penrite hpr 10/50 full synthetic from classic oils. £30 delivered( for 4) 1200ppm zinc. These also have 4 or so 20/50s if that's your flavour. Different viscosities are available though . See the thread on the rr forum.
