Evening all.I have an intermittent problem with my wifes 03 freelander 1.8 petrol starting.Think I have located problem as when the pump whirrs when turning on the ignition she starts (car not wife) and when the pump doesnt whirr she doesn't start (car) but wife does.Am going to replace (fuel pump relay) not wife but need to know where located and what colour.
Thanks for any help.

The FP relay is in the engine bay fuse box and is coloured yellow, just like all the others. It's relay No 1.

Edited to correct information.

Cheers Nodge.Would you know what the black box is that is located under the fuse box and is bolted to the inner wing.Looks like it has pipes going in and out(one going to the fuel injection bar (I think that is what it is))Could that be intermittently failing?
Really appreciate all your help.

A picture of the item would be useful. However from your description, you are talking about the EVAP modulator valve.
No that would stop it starting. It's job is to pass petrol vapours from the tank, to the inlet manifold to be burnt. It'll be heared clicking for a short time when it's active.

The fuel pump relay is No1. Swap it with the HDC relay (No3) as a test. ;)
Here's a picture of the fuse box.
