In the middle of rebuilding a Defender 300Tdi engine after a couple of catastrophic component failures.
Anyway, the lump has done 180K and I reckon the water pump is the original unit so I'm considering replacing it while I'm on. Just wondering:
Should I replace it no matter what? It feels tight enough when I turn it.
Are the suffix G ones ok
Are the Quinton Hazell ones better?

possibly but i dont remember, things have brands now but are all built in the same factory unlike previously

+1 - box engineering - you buy a ship full of ****ty parts, and put them in which ever box you want to. I too am sick of it.:(

It's a bloody minefield. Cheers, James. I'll defo replace it.

I'd replace it too - but I'd price a genuine one up - if nothing else it will be a laugh - so I've just done that - QH are about £60 - LR are about £145  sh*tpart are about £30 o_O

Mine has got a QH one on - replaced when I threw the electronic stuff away - 2 years ago now..... no problems yet....

it is increasingly so ,gone are the days when you could rely on non current build parts, its a lottery

Amen - a lot of the parts I buy for older tractors are made in India !!! they are Ok for the most part - just rough
