What have you decided for removing the dognut on the crank?

Haven't yet, but I've got time on my hands to decide. I've learned about a few options, the belt idea, improvising the metal cranked pivot you posted the video for or I could take Aaron up on the loan of his pulley locking tool. Or, I could try to improvise one with some 8mm bolts.

But, mine will be made of wood and string. :rolleyes:

I'm going to hit the problem of which make of parts are considered good to use.
I've just been looking through the Turner Engineering site
Anyone got a preferred source of parts? Pistons, rings, bearings, seals, valves.
 
I did the breaker bar and ignition key method to undo my crank nut when I did the timing belt recently. Takes second. The problem arises when it's time to tighten it back up!

I do the same, tightening was a case of handbrake on, wheels chocked , diff lockengaged , high box in fifth iirc. Then haul on a 3/4 breaker bar.

Yes, did that, bit the clutch started slipping in the end. I'm just hoping that the torque required to make the clutch slip is enough!
 
Was it far off, from the std 80Nm + 90 degrees??

Oh agent a clue, I just tightened it until I couldn't tighten it any more. I couldn't use a torque wrench because it started moving. I used thread locker on it and I'm going to make a pulley licking tool soon so I can check it.

Well if it started moving while you were tightening it on torque. It does sound strange. 80Nm is pretty low.

Just re-read his post......yes, if the clutch was slipping and you hadn't reached 80N.m at that point, you have further issues!
I wasn't using a torque wrench so I don't know at what point things started to move. I was on my own with the car in 1st gear, low range, diff lock with the hand brake on. I didn't have someone to stand on the brakes, so could have been the hand brake slipping, even?
 
Try it with the car in a higher gear.

Mine will climb up my drive , if I have it in low 1st. My drive is 15 degrees.

Oh, and please buy a torque wrench they are not expensive....LOL

Looks like I need a breaker! Having said that, you must mean a long, strong, tubular bar that will fit over a socket wrench.

Ha ha, I've got one, lol
I was just tightening it up as much as I could before using the torque wrench, seeing as how tight it was on and all I've read about people struggling to tighten them up. When it started to move, I didn't see the point in using it. Maybe I'll check tomorrow to see what it's at before it starts moving. I'll try fourth gear, too.
