Overfilled my 300tdi losing power

I over filled my 300tdi wanted to save £50.
I drove it for about 10/15 miles before I checked
the level, drained the excess out, but I seem to have
last some acceleration and top end speed. What do
you think I have done and how can I put it right.

Yes sorry engine oil.... think it was about 2 thirds of a litre
about 10mm over the top level of the dipstick

Having egg chips & beetroot lovely maybe just icecream for afters

Funny thing is I put the new Air filter in and the end cap
seems not to be a tight fit maybe 2mm to go but cannot
get any more turns on the flynut ?

do you think they sent the wrong air filter I bought the parts
fuel filter, air filter, oil filter from Paddocks they were Britparts

A little engine oil too much won't cause any problems at all, and you should ignore that. It may actually be quite good for the engine. Better a pint (half a litre or so) too much than a pint too little. You may wish to know that many or even most people using Landies off-road seriously are liable to pop in a litre of oil more than usual, so the oil sloshing about on the ruff stuff doesn't cause air to be drawn in rather than oil, which could cause a sudden loss of pressure and lube.

More of concern is the slight loss of power, suggestive of an air restriction somewhere, so start at the filter and work your way through to the turbo.

Over filling can cause extra crankcase pressure which can lead to the seals blowing but I wunt have thought two thirds of a litre would make that much difference. I'd agree with Charlsey and be looking at yer air filter if you changed that at the same time.

It is always worth keeping in mind that if a paper element air filter gets wet (water, petrol, oil or whatever) practically no air will pass through it.

Best fit exactly the proper filter too.

I changed my Air Filter, no change in performance. Whilst I was
out went to my local Land rover Specialist that I use, he reckons
its the cheap fuel Filter. Going in to-day for him to change over
fuel filter and oil Filter to Land rover ones. Don't want to get oil all
over place so let him do it. Let you know what happens with performance.

Back from the Landrover Specialist I use, they changed the
Fuel Filter & Oil Filter to Landrover parts, sweet as a nut now.
It just shows you cheap part in ****, it was just knocking down
my top speed by about 7 mph and the acceleration was about
10% less. I suppose if you got a knacked engine and you put
the cheap parts on you would not notice the difference.
Anyway back to top speed of 83 mph on flat no wind,
acceleration back to normal. Well in the end did not save any
money but learnt a lot

Went to the bookies, waiting for the Landy and won £120 on
two favorites, now smiling again.
