If I wanted a little more BHP from George (2000 V8 4.0) I would be thinking K&N panel filter and some different exhausts. But what about manifolds (or headers for them over the water)?

My question is, who's done what without going mental with cash and how has it panned out.

Fanx :D

Fit a 4.6.

If it's breathing easier, it's breathing better. I was under the impression K&N panel filters were reusable after a clean & some new oil. So you suggesting they do not allow more airflow than a cheapy panel filter from a factor?

K&N will kill the MAF - they don't like oil!

And they offer no measurable performance increase from the low revving and torque biased Rover V8's

You can fit an aftermarket ECU to change the fuelling map, fit a better breathing exhaust, remodelled plenum and ram assembly, high performance plugs, leads, coils, flowed heads, high lift performance cam and an adjustable timing set to change the cam angle...and you'll squeeze a bit more out of the engine, but the cost is not really worth the gains if you ask me....as the laws of physics are finite and absolute....2 tonnes going into a corner at way to faster speed will end in a trip in an ambulance regardless of what you did to the engine!

More power will be available, but at a cost. That cost will be fuel consumption will rise and reliability will suffer. the more power you extract the more these other two factors will apply

That's about what I thought. I don't want more top speed (I've had her just over 100mph....private drive yer honour :p ) but I was thinking mid range. She pulls off from the lights just fine, but if towing up a hill it's 4th, 3rd, 4th, 3rd, 4th, 3rd.... A bit annoying. I could manually drop a gear an wait till I'm at the top, but then I would probably forget and wonder where all my petrol went :D

Could you not change to a slightly smaller tyre ,this will lower the overall gearing .but will increase fuel consumption

Leave it in 3rd you know it makes sense. ;)

This is a round about discussion on all car mod sites
More power is more money and less reliability
Land Rover are fairly sorted on RD for safe middle of the road reliable power
If you mess with the engine it will mess with your VISA card
There is no.........change this for xxx for 50hp plus mods
K&N are good for rally cars but so is a new paper filter for yours

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is fun and safe
Gliding is fun if you like flying and safe ish................in clouds (not allowed) in evening
If you want more fun do Offshore Helicopter Crash Survival Course
Volunteer on a life boat with RNLI in bumpy weather
Do a SETT tank navy deep water training course if you want to feel power from water pressure

Your Rangy is just a fun chugged car not a Porsche xxx

Thank you for all replies. May I say, I was only asking to see what the general consensus of opinion was.

I have no plans to mod George, even though going up Drumossie Brae is a pain in the arse, but mostly if you want to go at 70mph or more. I may have been, *ahem* having some sport with some fanny who would NOT let me change lanes a couple of weeks back, So I pushed in and leathered him sideways. I was wayyy ahead of him going up the hill at triple figures and he was NOT happy :p Well, if you act like a twat, be prepared to be treated like one :D

The only reason I held on to my 322 4.4 for 11 months was the turn of speed, whatever it was (o-60 in 8 summit... but galloped past a ton and I seen almost the 130) that and the engine note, my advice is upgrade,,,,,, to L322.
P38 is so close to P45 it becomes dare I say, redundant, ;)
Go on, you know you want to.

Oh, and no need to hold on to 3rd!!!

My next may be the S/C if I can't curtail this semi!!!! It's already wearing through my knee:eek:

Think you need to start driving in a reasonable manner and stop being an over aged boy racer. As my old grand dad said, "Sense comes at all ages, some it misses altogether". :D:D

Perhaps. But you have no idea how feckin petty some of the clowns up here can be. Like wagon drivers. One behind the other, you go to pass one, he closes the gap JUST to be a twunt.

Coming into the A9 from the Raigmore Interchange (which is what I was on about) they will NOT allow you to filter. Me, I see someone coming on, so will shaken off if possible or change lane. But you get arseholes who see this happening, so will speed up behind to stop you changing lane and such.

Seriously, they are irresponsible **** for brains :(

So some days, after you've driven for miles and miles and they start their pish, you just have to sink to their level simply to get into lane

I can believe that, it used to be a bloody nightmare trying to make progress on the A74 into Glasgow when it was two lane, before it was up rated to A74M. Mile after mile of nose to tail HGVs at times, almost impossible to pass.

As said, a K&N will kill the MAF.
I put a Janspeed cat back system on mine & very marginal instant throttle response. With the centre box taken out it felt less a little less powered but just made lots of noise. Magnecore leads made no difference. Mine has 4.0 pistons to increase compression & a Kent 180 cam which makes it much more powered on LPG. Anything including porting heads / manifold I guess would be lost on the P38 as it's designed for torque, which is abundant in the thor 4.6 (only driven a gems 4.0 so cant compare).

Aye, whats wrong wi Wigi's? Side by side on the dual carriageway for miles

"Um urnay gonnae let ye in pal!"

Seriously selfish bastards :(

I'm sure one or two on here could explain it to me, because if I'm trundling, I'm happy to let others pass.

There's a thing on FB just now about Aberdeen drivers. I said it's the same here in Inversmell. Yellow boxes, pah! I CAN sit on it, "look!" or red lights, "I'm pretty sure red means go, only FASTER!" o_O

However, it's the clowns so obviously devoid of any measure of talent, that they want to turn right, so they simply stop! Now, call me assumptious, but if I see someone stopped in the middle of the road, I imagine they have broken down. But no, Margo McNaeBrains is turning right. I can see this now, because, even though her indicator isn't flashing as you should expect, her wheels are fully locked to the right. Somehow, that is all the indication you need! But she's that backward, she doesn't realise that some other talentless fanny is going to rock up behind, at speed (because not only is there no indicator, there are also no brake lights since she's slipping the clutch) ad wallop into her, causing her shed to swivel round in a shambolic mess of twisted metal and shattered plastic, into the live lane of oncoming traffic. The resulting disaster means the road will be closed for hours while they dig the clowns out of their self imposed metal cages and find what went wrong!

I could go on for hours, but my life is already shortened by the stress of thinking I have to drive through them later :p
