Freelander 1 Problem with rear wipers and rear door

It won't be the first time that's had to be done.
Never heard of one shattering like that, only from rear impact.

When I bought mine the boot window was jammed up permanently so was always jammed up against the outside edge. It should be fine until you can get a new regulator.

So itscertin its the regulator at fault?
The fuse is fine.

I shall look online for a replacement regulator.

Three or four star screws at the bottom of the door and the door card will pull off. Just grab the bottom and pull hard.
When you pick yourself off the ground you'll be able to see what the problem is.

Ok. If I can get up in time tomorrow, I will take the card off. Depends how busy I am tonight.

When the problem first occurred, there was no click when trying to open the rear door with the handle.
It was only later in the night when I rattled the handle quite a bit and it started operating normally.

Baring that in mind, would it be worth me trying the window calibration routine before I remove the door card if that doesn't sort it out?

Until you get inside the door you won't know which bits broke. It could be the handle or the window regulator. Trying to reset the tailgate window could just mangle the motor/wire up and make it harder to remove.

I have now got the card off and the waterproof membrane.

I cannot see anything obvious that is wrong. I will go back out with a torch in a few mins to have a better look.
The door handle is clicking and does unlock when I squeeze it.

The window just sits there fully closed, dead!
The centre console switch does nothing and when I close the tailgate and lock it on the fob it gives the usual 'Honk'.

What should I check next?

Fuses, and there's a relay in the rear offside panel iirc.

How do I check a relay?

I will take the side panel off and check the relay tomorrow, weather allowing.
I will need my wife or someone to help me listen for any click as I am severely deaf and rely heavily on hearing aids.
I may well hear the click, but will have no idea where it is coming from if I do hear it.
I wonder if I could feel the click if I get someone to operate the switch?

I have also ordered a new relay as it was only around a fiver.

Most of the relays are interchangeable, just pop one off the fuse board. Could do with someone who remembers the exact layout of the rear contols, @Nodge68 , @Alibro , think they've had the back off more recently than me.

The rear window motor is driven by a duel relay, looking at the diagram.
There's another fuse to check too (18).
The window relay is under CCU control. I would test the motor first as that's easy to do.

I will check fuse 18 tomorrow afternoon, going to work for a night shift soon.
How do I test the motor?

I bet the motor will be fine it is not often that the rear one goes wrong the plastic top above the door is held on with plastic clips and they are square and you will need to order some from LR if you break them also your rear window heater will not work if the window does not close properly to get the trim off there are 4 screws at the bottom take them out and then you can just grab trim and pull upwards and out wards at the same time when you put it back you need to put the top on first

I already have the door card off.
The heated rear window is working fine.
Just the window motor and rear wiper not working. And glass is in closed position but outdide the top plastic strip.

Odd that the heated screen is working. I always thought the CCU cut that off if a fault was logged.
Can you feel any loose metal wire thread inside the rear door? That's what runs the window up and down. It should have no breaks and slightly taught to the touch.
Activating the motor require a 12v supply and looking at the diagram above posted by @Nodge68 . Just a brief touch would make the motor move, then it's a fuse or relay, if no movement, it's the motor. Getting at the wires is a bit more work than just saying it, sorry.

Is the handle spring OK? I can't remember what the symptoms are but they often fail.
Like Mike says, make sure the regulator wire is OK, they often fail too and can end up jamming the motor.

The wire cables seem ok. I gave them a tug to see if I could dislodge them but couldn't. I will recheck tomorrow.
The handle seems to be operating normally. It clicks when I hold it as normal.

Just a quick thought, have you tried waggling the rubber tube the wires run through between the rear panel and rear door?
