P38A Switch pack

Left front window wouldn't go up the other day. Checked on nanocom and no signal from the switch for up.
Tried to get the switch pack out for a look but couldn't get it over the hand grip of the hand brake lever. Is there an easy way to do this?
Just used nanocom to drive it closed for now as I was short of time but if one is playing up, there's a good chance the others are getting due for a cleanup so would like to get it off ASAP!

Is it the P38? Reason I ask is I had a real problem and it turned out to be a dirty contact on the multiplug to the BECM due to a damp carpet! I cleaned it with a mouse tail file and some switch cleaner. Works beautifully after all that.

The island was still getting a signal, just not enough to provide power to power the motor

With some twisting and fiddling it can come off over the hand-brake handle. The handle grip itself just pulls off.

Just a quick tip, double locking with fob and holding down on second press will close all windows and sun roof. Twist off the handle after removing the two screws holding the switch pack and slide it all forward after uncliping wiring plug. Hope this helps

Do it all the time to close sunroof when opened as my switch is faulty, never had a prob.

Double locking/superlocking ISN'T required to roll the windows up and close the sunroof. 'Lazy Locking' as it is called in the manual is activated by pressing a HOLDING the lock button for a couple of seconds (or turning and holding the key to lock in the door). The button can be released when any open windows/sunroof start to close. It should always (as far as I can tell from the BECM settings) work with the key in the door, but there is an option for it to be key only, or key and Fob.

Regarding the switchpack though...
If it is just one switch which is failing, and the BECM isn't reading this switch state changing, then the link to the BECM and all that side of things is working fine. The switchpack communicates over a serial link - so if any part of this fails, then all the window and mirror switches will stop working. If it's just one or more switches, then it is usually the switch contacts themselves.

If you're aren't happy pulling the thing apart and repairing it, then I also sell repaired/tested switchpack units (both with/without sunroof) on my website/eBay on exchange for the faulty one back for me to repair. Every unit is tested and repaired where required, and then tested in my own personal P38 before being sold. The only difference to the procedure in the above link is that I now actually have replacement switch domes so instead of cleaning the dirt/tarnishing off the old ones, I just replace them with new.

Thanks marty, I'm sure I'll be able to clean up the switch, I just wasn't sure how the handbrake handle came off and didn't want to break it.
I'll be driving it down to Italy next week, visiting a customer then it's going back to the Czech republic. Once the weather improves, I'll get a few jobs done on it.
I just wish I'd had time to do the heated seats, gonna be cold down there!
