Yep ends went red after about 5 seconds
If it (eventually) starts with a cloud of white smoke, that says to me that plenty of fuel is getting through but there isn't the heat to ignite it. As above, the glows provide pre-heat but I've never known a 300Tdi to not start when they're faulty. That leaves compression. If the valves have receded a bit and closed the clearances up, you'll have insufficient compression (which provides the heat to burn the fuel) and hence, start straight away.
Well worth checking the valve clearances, it will take someone experienced 10 minutes.

from the factory they do but it has been known for people to remove them to fit in a series etcNow might be a daft question but do all 300tdis have turbos
