Hi, Can anyone tell me at what RPM you should feel the Turbo kick-in on a Freelander TD4. I get no decent torque until about 2300 RPM then a sudden boost. Online research is telling me that my MAF could have deteriorated and may need replacing. I know the Freelander is not intended to be a performance car so I'm not overly worried. I bought it 2nd hand last year and it has been like this since I've had it so I have nothing to compare against. My last car was an Octavia Tdi which was very torquey in the low revvs, however that was a much lighter car so perhaps comparison is not fair.
If anyone out there has had a Td4 from new they might know what it's supposed to be like...... if you know what I mean!!

I had the same problem with mine after fitting a used 28000 mile engine. Fitted the maf from my old engine, pulls from low down now, sorry not sure on revs though. Try unplugging it you should notice the difference if the maf is on its way out.

Hi,
If you suspect a MAF problem on these, simply switch ign off,, disconnect MAF connector and test drive. ECU will revert to base settings, if MAF was faulty performance will improve. If thats the case replace MAF for a known good make.

Happy days,,

I agree with Nige, that'll tell you instantly the state of the Maf. Turbo usually comes in at 1800rpm, though it'll have some grunt below this.

My TD4 133k miles has just started 'misfiring' at about 1600 RPM. If you drive through it then all is fine.

Could this be turbo or MAF? Any way to eliminate the turbo? No fault codes and MAF is not very old. Will try a disconnect though.

Do you use supermarket fuel? When was the last time you used an injector cleaner? Sounds like an injector issue to me.
