hi all

coming home today in my 2003 td4. its done 85000

On the motorway for a split second the car started to hold back at about 70 mph. then returned to normal. this happened a couple of times.

then when i came off the motorway and had to acelerate it had little power and wouldnt rev beyond 2000. then it accelerated as normal. in spurts and would then return to the below 2000 rpm scene. like a petrol car with damp ht leads.

i pulled over and called the breakdown company.

whilst waiting for the recovery guy the car started up ok , didnt stall and tickover is normal.

it seemed to be reving freely and definetly over the 2000 rpm mark up top its redline with no smoke from the rear of the car.

the guy dropped the car off and now the car is driving ok, but with a little flat spot when acelerating.

could it be dirt in the fuel. if so then will redex do any good.
if it was dirty fuel would it still rev when not under load.

what sensors could be faulty

i have checked the air intake hoses and they all look fine.

any ideas

could be a lot of things

Check the maf sensor and poss replace with a roveron

Check and replace the depression limiting valve & filter, only £25 from dealer and 30 mins to fit, If it doesnt cure it needs replacing anyway

They have reported similar issues down to this valve

do a search and you should find info on how to replace

Try dissconectin the Maf sensor, if it improves then this is your problem, easy to do un wont hurt anyfink, it will use more doozle, and run more rich . . . . .:) :) :)

hi

disconnected the maf sensor and its much better,

the guy i got the car off gave me a roveron maf thing, he said he had got it but never fitted it cos he thought it was tuning chip which it wasnt.

i didnt want to fit it incase i did any damage, that was 20,000 miles ago.

i part ex the car on friday for another one, so if i leave the maf unplugged will it cause any long term damage.

cheers

Not really, If your PX for another TD4 save the maf sensor, if not sell it on here someone will buy, there about £60 new

hi
i must be old fashoioned cos i couldnt px it when it wont rev past 2000, its not driveable.

i do have a psi tuning box going for 150
cheers

Hi m8,

hi ,

i am going to include the maf from roy which has cured it. but the dealers giving me 5250 for a 2003 - 1 owner es station wagon.
full leather - 17 inch alloys.
2 owners and full history up to 86,000.

what do you think it will go on his forcourt for 7000 ?

cheers

a mate bought a landcruiser - colorado from a dealer, the dealer said it had full service histpory which he was waiting for from the owners.

it never turned up, then acouple of weeks later my mate got a call from trading standards, about the cars mileage which was out by about 80,000

i wish i could! bought 1999di in feb. with a mot 1 day old. i have since replaced exhaust, 2 tyres, wipers (these are the good bits) VC, fuel sensor, diffs and bushes and now........ it would seem the fuel injection pump is foooked TA DA! hows that for a genuine and honest car salestwat person?(forgot about the bulb for a front light)
i have similar probs with revs and things thats why i think its the fuel injection but hopefully some of you guys can maybe tell me different and save me a fortune. it sometimes revs up to 3000, revs on changing gear (sounds like i keep my foot on throttle when changin gear) pauses for a second when foot just touching throttle and the engine light comes on for that same split second. other days its magic, perfect.
it would be great if someone said nah, its not the fuel injection pump its a fuse (only jokin);)
any clues guys or gals?
thanks

i've already moaned about this bucket last week but maybe someone can give me a different take on it,
cheers
