So a few of you may be aware i'm converting my n/a to a tdi soon.
I was planning on fitting a 300tdi until i managed to find a 200tdi for quite cheap just today, i'm going to get it tomorrow!
Only thing is it does not have a turbo or exhaust manifold. Don't suppose anyone has one lying around they would like to get rid of?
Or, will the turbo and manifold from a 300tdi fit the 200tdi?
Engine sounds a right bargain at 300euros missing a starter motor and the bits mentioned above.

I'm not sure whether the two are interchangable, I will see if I can pull it up on parts catalogue shortly.

You did give me a fright though - my 200tdi is sat on my rebuilt defender missing those three parts, I just had to go out and check someone hadn't nicked it - luckily it's still there!

Doesn't seem so:

err678 - outlet manifold - most places advertise this as 200tdi outlet manifold...

err1435 - inlet manifold

Then turbo - seems to be a few choices of standard and uprated on ebay - though you've got all the addon bits too:

Don't think i'll be sourcing my inlet manifold from john craddocks!
Thanks for the part numbers though!

300tdi exhaust manifold and turbo should fit but youll need new 300 oil feed pipes a new 300 inlet manifold and have to do something with the downpipe to get around the engine mount

i think steve parker might have a primary exhaust pipe that looks as though it might fit.....youll need to check

I will have a 300tdi inlet exhaust manifolds and a turbo, i'll buy some new oil feed hoses and i'm sure i'll be able to do something for a downpipe. Thanks!

Well as it turns out this engine does have inlet and exhaust manifolds but is missing a turbocharger. I think what I should do is fit a 300tdi exhaust manifold and turbo instead of trying to source a replacement defender 200tdi manifold.
Don't suppose anyone has a discovery manifold and turbocharger surplus to requirements at a reasonable price?

So here she is! as it turns out she's only missing a turbo, but i will be replacing the manifolds for 300TDI disco ones.

As soon as i got home, i worked on getting the old 2.5 n/a lump out, and i managed to remove it in a matter of hours.

Managed to find a Garrett turbocharger along with a 300tdi discovery exhaust manifold today at a reasonable price, quite pleased with that.
In other news, the 200tdi is now fitted in the engine bay and hooked up to the LT77 having replaced the flywheel cover and such. After that, pulled the head off to reveal, as the previous owner said, a blown head gasket. Other than that it turns freely and the bores look lovely and smooth. Good news so far :)

So the conversion is well under way. Radiator is fitted, electric fan fitted, engine to be put back together, but while i am waiting for parts i thought i'd get everything ready.
A lot of stuff has been done but i don't know what to do about an air filter. The original one won't fit, and i can't seem to put it anywhere else, so what have you done?
