Hi all the low battery sign came up on my dash so i locked the car on the fob and because i had 2 new batterys i went to put them in, well as people who have a p38 should know the slot on the back of the fob is made of soft plastic ,its ****e, any way i struggled to get it off but totally destroyed the slot as i cannot now tighten it up so it wont work , the same goes for the second fob, anyway could i just open the car on the key,and start the engine, with out the alarm going off ? ooh ive ordered 2 new backs for the fobs for what they are there not cheap.

If you could lock the car with the fob but unlock it with the key and start it, immobiliser is disabled in BECM.

When the back of my fob lost the edges to the slot, I heated a £2 coin up and used it to remake the slot and it worked. be careful you dont go too deep

I recommend people to replace key fob batteries with either the vehicle unlocked, or locked with the key in the door.
Under normal circumstances, if you lock the vehicle with the remote, you can unlock it with the key in the door, but only the drivers door will unlock and you will need to enter the EKA before the vehicle will start or let you resync the remote. (unless the EKA has previously been turned off)

Unlocking with the key shouldn't set the alarm off, but you probably won't be able to start it or resync the key fobs now untlil the EKA has been entered.

If the vehicle is unlocked when you change the key fob batteries, then the alarm isn't activated and it should let you resync the key straight away.

Good advice about changing batteries with car unlocked, if you lock the car with the fob and unlock with the key the engine will be disabled. You cannot sync the fob or start the car until the EKA code has been entered and accepted. However if you lock the car with the fob and open it with the key and it can be started the immobiliser is disabled in the BECM. Normally if you locked with fob and unlocked with key you would need to enter the EKA code to turn the immobiliser off.

I disabled the immobiliser after it dumped the missus in town. Bit of a drag as I was working quite a long way away that day. That was before I replaced the RF receiver though.

probably shouldn't mention that to the insurance company!

I think you will be all right they would have to be insane to want to try and nick a p38 ,
aaahh hange on a moment we own and drive them that must make us:eek:

It only disables the passive part of the immobiliser anyway, which kicks back in when the engine is shut off and the key removed. The engine is still immobilised when the vehicle is locked/alarmed - so even if someone broke in then it would still be immobilised.
