what would you guys recomend for a 96 4.6 hse on lpg, dont want irridiums again! and gap?

The spec is RN11YCC, why change this based on marketing hype and all that cr*p. I'm fed up with people telling me that I need this plug or that set of leads and it will let my 4.6 give me an extra 500 bhp + an extra 30mpg.
The lump was designed to run with certain pieces of kit so why change it??. There are so many "Quack" ideas out there. tempting us with magnetic fuel flow add ons to "Dramatically" increase mpg etc. We bought a 4.6 accepting the fact that it would not cost the same to run as a Nissan Micra so apart from a gas conversion we have to live with the cost of making our choice.I am the same as everyone elsa-I hurt every time I put 80+ litres of juice in to the tank but it's my choice and all in all I love my motor despite all t's quirks .
What do all you other guys think??? Have I opened a can of worms?????

for the last 10 months i been using ngk irridiums with a .7mm gap. i cleaned and regaped them recently and with new leads it didnt seem to smooth when reving it up when stationary, but went out tonight and my word is it smooth and it accelerates smoothly again, i didnt realise how, not bad but not as good it had got!
it gets up to spead very well and increases with so much more ease than it did before.
im very happy. what gap do you guys recomend for lpg, i always been told to go for .7mm!!

With regard to the Rover v8 engine I have always used Champion plugs contrary to what anyone else says about them,and have never had a single problem.
I,m talking some thirty odd years of use.

NGK BPR6ES in all long reach Rover V8 LR applications - petrol or LPG.
They dont need anything clever,just a reliable spark.(Its a pushrod v8,not a multivalve DOHC rev thing.)

Also I think NGK do a specific Iridium Lpg plug but they are around £8 each (NGK-BPR6EIX-LPG)

Jeeze,anyone daft enough to pay that ought to just run the car on petrol and waste money that way - I pay 94p + vat for BPR6ES's and they are 100 %.

Only ever used Champion (Unipart) plugs and always found them fine and long lasting. I see no reason to change.

Why is it the plugs for a post '99 engine (THOR) are so bloody expensive then? Halfrauds want £35.00 for 4 (Champion), Bosch don't even list for this engine and NGK took both left arm and leg. Seen on Flea bay that RPI want .....wait for it........£119.00 for a set.

hope you see this eightinavee i changed the plugs on my 97 4.6 abought 6 weeks ago and was given ngk bpr6e and NOT the bpr6es which where fitted originally what exactlly is the difference between the 2 and does it matter ?? , thanks in anticipation.

Just to confuse things further, I changed my plugs last weekend and the plugs that were in were NGK BP5EVX
I had never heard of them so a quick search on google found that they were platinum tipped racing plugs for motor bikes !?
I believe they are also used in some Mercs and bmw's etc.
These plugs must have been fitted before it left Japan - anyone heard of them being used in a V8 before ?

Not a great deal proberly,but I'll have a look in the NGK book and suss it out for you.

these are what i have but since regapping its sometimes smooth running sometimes not, think il invest in some magnecor leads.....

hi redrange i had magnacor leads when i first bought the car but i reckon they were about 6yrs old ( i.e when the lpg conversion was done ) i lifted the bonnet one night on a dark lane and it looked like a laser light show , so i bought a new set of magnacor leads and the difference was amazing , also at the same time i stuck a set of ngk plugs in it and gapped them a 0.7 mm the result was a much smoother engine and a lot more responsive .

i fitted the denso twin tips to my 4.6 thor with lpg and they run great. Done 4k on them and on lpg i'm getting 19mpg on a run (yes worked out the old fashioned way and not on the trip comp) so would recommend them. Did have the std NGK coppers in before.

BPR6ES with Genuine Bosch leads.. Sublime running and all for less than £40.
