Can not get into discovery 2

Hi all, new to the forum hoping someone out their could shed a bit of light on my problem.
1999 discovery td5
The key fob is not opening vehicle, have swapped battery with another still no joy and the red light still works
The battery on the vehicle hasn't been showing any signs of lacking power so wouldn't suspect that being at fault, red light on dash is still flashing as normal
I only have the one key for the vehicle and that doesn't work in the drivers door so can not even access the vehicle or use EKA code if I knew where it is, handbook is in the truck
Not in favour of putting a window through... too messy
Would drilling the lock be an idea or would that not work
Any help would be gratefull

Probably a silly question, does the key work in any of the other locks?
Did you lock it with the key fob?

I can only see a lock on the drivers door, is their any other?
Yes locked it with the key fob Friday night as normal went out to it sat morning and nothing happens
Have read things about the receiver in the truck being troublesome but not being able to get in posses a little problem

Well, that is a surprise, just checked mine and you appear to be correct, i can only see one lock.

Think you might want to call someone for help. Sorry. Or start looking for a spare window for sale.

Surprised me too, but yes, AFAIK a D2 does only have one door lock.

I thought that, had to go look myself just to make sure
That window is the last resort that seems to be getting closer
I wonder if I carefully drilled out the top and bottom off the barrel I could get a screwdriver in and work the lock

It may sound strange, but what I would do is try and get the bonnet open.
Then remove the battery and charge it up. Replace, and you may find the central works again. These all electronic models are very sensitive to battery voltage and condition.

Certainly cannot hurt to try it.

Went out one morning, turned the key, all the lights and everything came on, I rung my mate, he said disconnect and leave for a while. I did, no result. Then I tried the battery put of my 90, started up perfect right away!

Another mate has a rangie, only about 2 years old. Same thing, no joy one morning. New battery, fired up and off it went 100%.

Eve if you do have a more serious electronic issue, I cant see that being sure your battery is all good, and fully charged, is ever going to hurt with diagnosing it!

That you will need a key that works and the EKA code. EKA code you can get with proof of ownership from a LR dealer. Do you have the key code?

I do have some information on the truck but I think it is still in the glovebox as I've not had the truck very long

Sadly you are right. The fobs often cause trouble too!

Starter motor will have no effect on central locking issue, that will be due to an electronics issue one way or another.

Starter motor will have no effect on central locking issue, that will be due to an electronics issue one way or another.

The thought was to connect power onto the starter motor thus upping the voltage in the system and operating the key fob when connected and see if it helps

No harm in trying, how difficult is it to get the bonnet open?

Never tried on that, but usually not too hard. see if you can remove grille, or reach from underneath to access the release cable.

If you can get into the disco, the rear door has a handle on the inside should work.

Are you sure u have the wrong key and it's not just a stiff lock on the drivers door due to lack of use with a key, which is not unusual when remote control locking is used.
Would the engine start as it will be still immobilised. and if it did how will u stop it? when providing power direct to the starter.
If it's dead locked you won't be able to open the doors from the inside that's the idea of dead locking so break ing glass won't help.

Does feel like the wrong key, gave it a good WD40 but no joy there

I've got into the vehicle, managed to pop the bonnet open through the grill
Disconnected the battery and then reconnected and the fob worked straight away
Had the vehicle running for a bit, locks and unlocks fine, I think I'm going to change the battery
