Quick and simple question my 200 gets hot if anyone has read my other feed....but one thing I want to know is do I need to have a stat...surely not having one would keep water moving non stop and keep her cold?!

No you don't need one but it'll lengthen warm up time and increase fuel consumption.

Have you checked ACTUAL temperature yet? Removing the stat will only help your issue if the stat itself is the problem

why make a new thread?

do what you've been told and flush the rad first ;)

pipes should be holding a bit of pressure. if they are really soft then your exp bottle cap is probably gone and would explain the hissing. buy a new one.

lil laser ir thermometers are about a tenner, get one they are v useful

I'll buy a new cap but the stat is new from a LR specialist..I'm going to check the pump is actually in good working order next then try find a place that will flush the rad

ah, this makes a bit more sense. you think flushing the rad will cost and is a lot of hassle?

couple choices, get a bucket and pull off the bottom rad hose. it'll drop coolant into it.

then pull off top rad hose, stick a hose pipe in the bottom and turn it on. do it again at the top. pipes back on put bucket back into system or go nuts and get new coolant.

or buy some new coolant. drop the bottom hose as before, but also remove the stat you just replaced. stick hosepipe inthe hose to the engine and flush the whole engine and rad. repeat it the reverse way.

All noted! I was going to take the rad off just thought hassle!! I'll try it over the next few days if I get a free min

My 200 ran hot when rad was caked in mud, even though I'd hosed it off, the mud was behind the winch where without taking the rad off It couldnt be got at,

Just because it is a new stat does not mean it is a working one. Take the stat out and dangle it in a pan of water over the gas hob. As the water comes up in temperature you should see the stat begin to open and it should be fully open just before boiling point. If you have a TD5 its not so easy to do but the same principles apply. I have had a few "new" stats that did not open.

You can try flushing out the Rad but I have never found this to be very successful. Especially if its and old Rad. The inside of the core can get caked up, especially if it has been run without proper coolant in the rad. I ended up fitting a new one. I also changed the heater Matrix at the same time as they were not expensive. I prefer to do a job once properly then finish with it.

Ye I did the matrix already it was so shot you wouldn't believe it if you saw it haha
