Hi folks

Said my hellos over on the other page so down to buissness i gota pick some brains got many many questions needing answered. If you dont mind that is.

The landy is a 1996 E-plate. She has done 84665 miles on those chassis but the whole thing was rebuilt by the previouse owner. The engine is a recondistioned 2.5 turbo not the fancy tdi more the old wooden spoon and pot yin ;) .

New shocks n springs all round and full service and mot.

1. I need new tyres. Mostly be muddy lanes but have alot of rutty stuff up here with rocks n granite thrown in for good measure. Strong sidewalls a must. Not bothered about onroad performance.

2. Front nudgebar to protecxt the front end a bit nothing to big any thoughts?.

3. it has power steering emm of sorts its good actually i adjusted the linkage bits in the engine bay as they had play in them gona get enw ones but would a steering damper help or with the power steering give me no feeling at all .

4.brakes their not bad at all just need bed in or the system bleed again but can i upgrade easily to rear dics and maybe stronger calipers, im used to my transit and it has outrageously strong brakes.

5. Whats the score with the transit 2.5 engines in landys.

ok thast 5 oot the way for now any help in any of those would be much appriciated im new to all the landrover stuff but have been one way or another rolling aboot in mud all my life.

hey up

ill jump in first im no expert this is just from what i read! im sure one of the fellas with some knowledge will post soon. ohh is it not a 1986/87
E plate with the 2.5 n/a turbo lump?

1. tyres wise i hear\some good things about these insa turbos and the and colways"greenways" are both not bad for the money it just depends on your budget

2.nudge bar there all about the same size realy? unless you go for an A-bar

3.does it not have a steering damper fitted?im not sure about power steering so hopefully someone else can give you some insight to that. whats it doing that you dont think is right what do you want to improve on it?.

4.im not 100% on this"someone correct me if im wrong.but to upgrade to rear disks will involve fitting a new rear axle unless its a salisbury axle if it is a salisbury then zeus engineering do a kit but the upgrade to disc brakes requires fitting 16" 6J wheels. Im not sure but dont all 110 come with salisburys fitted? but remeber your driveing a 20 year old landy not a t reg transit lol

5.the score with transit engines..forget it and put in a 200tdi lump lol naw it whould be good to know what peoples input to that whould be,id personally go for a 200tdi from what i read on here and stuff.

well i hope that helps chap and hopefully you get some more imput on it like i say im not 100% but just thought id give my 2p worth.

how's the fettle Boner:D i'm nae expert either but here's my wee bit anaw-
1. Tyre's, I use Toyo m/t's on my 110. Changed the 7.50x16's to 235/85's ( think thur slightly bigger  ). Not to bad on the road and dinae seem to mind the hills, but dinae like big peaty wet holes when lampin'!!!!
2. I'd say the same as mystic on that one. Fitted a chunky A bar on mine.
3.Got a steerin' damper on mine ('91 200tdi) dunno aboot earlier ones tho'. Have you still got play in the steerin' wheel? Only askin' cos I had a hoor of a play in mine i.e 'nearly' 1/4 turn of steerin' wheel before wheels moved:eek: . The manual says summit aboot 9-9.5 mm of play max!!! Adjusted the nut on steerin' box and everythin's tight now:D
4 & 5. try doin' a search on here, I'm sure I just read summit aboot changin' to rear discs, could've bin MHM (?)
Well that's my bit, hope sumbuddy with a bit more know how replies tae ye:D

Ahh knoledge now were cooking ! :D .

tyres: have to be wet boggy freindly as i imagine ill spend the future stuck in rain sodden feilds up to my eyeballs in coo ****. A good all rounder but not so that road use is an issue im about 1/2 a mile from cow poo covered roads.

Nudgebar:What do you guys think of those lighter looking single bar fellies you can buy for boot 150 most places. like the yin ont hat discovery i went to see msytic u mind m8? are they any good.

Steering:It seems ok i know it aint gona be like my van or car but im happy nuff with it but to be honest i need someone that owns a landy to check it as i dont know if she is ok or not. Nothing bad happens but there is float so to speak. I dont know if it has a steering damper ill hae check.

Engoines: I intend on pulling oot the recon 2.5td and keeping it as a spare. my local garage has a lovely V8 range rover that they wiell sell.
Transit engine is a temptasion as i know they are bombproof and have huge amounts of low end torque if you keep em in the right rev range.
200TDI convertion seems the norm and i ahve read some cool tuning tips to improve them. other than this i dont know.

Brakes: Cool Mystic good info there bro i midn you saying befor aboot the sailsburys i kinow urs is but urs ex mod not sure if myne is or not. Just fancy some dics all round. the brakes aint bad wre scaryu at first but needed bed in. They fine now just want more power see im abs lazy.

thanks for the advice and info guys appriciate that. loveing the old gal so far but i do find myself suddenly runnign oot with a screwdriver at times wanting to check sutin or other lol. she will be a revovery truck at the weekend ill ahe try fire up the car its been sitting for a month now and i dont think the battery in it will be to happy boot that.

beer makes me type lots it seems . ill go to bed now. doh.

boner:)

only reason I got stuck was a burst field drain and went doon ower the bumper!!!:)
A quick look underneath and in front o' the axle should tell ye if ye've got a damper or no:D
And dae ye mean one of these things ....

....that's on the front of mine?
oh, and that's them tyres anaw:D

Hiya Boner, I be running insa turbo's on my 1991 tdi 110HT with really agressive pattern and they seem to hold the road really well too for a mud/off road tyre.have so far coverd about 5000miles and they dont even started to look worn!

Just something else you may want to be aware of... If you change your engine to something more powerful, make sure your drive members and side shafts are up to spec.

:)
Some good info there guys cheers for that.

Gone get the tyres first like the sounds of those Insa turbo chappys! think the wheels are known as wolfrace? not figured oot yet what that means lol.

Busterbus its more a single bar that is atatched to the mount that goes to the normal chassis mount. Not the A bar but i do like them too and you can get them for these nudgebars. They can take winches too. You would know what i mean if i knew what they were called ill try find pics.

Engine wise gona try tune this thing a bit better its setup like a bag o spanners. If i go all out on an engine im gona get a v8 and prep the ladny accordingly but i have a feeling that be better left for a 90 and i should go doon the 200tdi route. This last upgrade so can have time to think boot it. Not my daily commute only used for the dogs so dont care about fuel costs.

Thanks again

Scott
