abs pump {faulty}

Hi, not been on here for a while but things are going wrong again, just bought 2nd p38 diesel auto, had / has brake problems, replaced abs accumalator/pump and relay, still have to pump pedal to get a good hard pedal, also abs, tc,and handbrake warning lights are on, car has been on indipendants autologic computer, it says no faults but lights remain, any suggestions welcome. ta.

Check the handbook : Vehicle that have been standing for any long length of time may have their lights on for at least 40 seconds and that includes ABS. A ABS ligt stays on until you are moving at a certain speed. (sensor check) Also there is a certain method the bleed the brakes, check the manual. I had a soft pedal and pulled the ABS relay while doing other electrics, drove forward and back pumped pedal and when I replaced the relay got hard pedal. Also try this old Army mechanics trick : Pump up the pedal and jam a piece of wood between the steering wheel and pedal, leave on overnight, next day = Hard pedal. Works well on Series. The small air bubbles rise to the top as there is a valve inside the system left open. We used to leave them for a couple of days and got great brakes. Remember the leather wheel needs some protection, rag or paper between the wood and wheel. I use a old broom handle and a piece of wood 11" long with a hole for the pole. pole on the pedel and pump up, jam the wood against the seat.

Hi, thanks for that but car has done seveeral miles at 50mph to and from dealers, lights still on. I have looked at brake fluid level and removed about half a pint just in case to get it to max level bled master cyl front and back prob still there.

Plus 1 to that, the whole system needs bleeding as per RAVE, it aint simple

A lot easier with 2 of you, that's for sure. Make sure you get all bubbles out when bleeding the booster screw and top up little and often.

Don't forget, the correct fluid level is with the engine running, it will rise above full when parked up.
