Hi,
I am Rich from south Leicester

I managed to get an series 3 SWB 2 1/4 diesel for what I think was a good price ( less than £500 including my delivery costs) so I can do it up and my son can do something other than play on an Xbox \Ipad etc.

Just waiting for the documents to come back at the moment - but I will no doubt be trawling and asking dumb questions ! At the moment the brakes.... dont and the clutch is stuck to the flywheel but it looks OK, albeit that it is on axle stands whilst I replace the pipes, hoses, cylinders shoes and drums !

Seemed like a good idea at the time

Anyone know if its an MOT fail if one of the leaf sping band\clamps (between the axle and the mounting point) is opening up and no longer holding onto the other leaves ? Couple of pictures attached.

Welcome Rich, great to hear of another S3 brought back to life. This is one close to me at the moment, my front springs need replacing and I keep fudging it at the MOT and they sem to pass OK. My understanding is that if any part of the suspension system is broken (or if you have leaking shockers) it will fail. The two spring clamps are pretty fundamental to the integrity of the suspension system. If one has failed there is a risk of the whole spring coming off the axle mounting (not advisable if driving!!). I'd actually be nervous driving it like that so for me it would be at the point of replacement. They're not expensive to buy, but the sting is if you are replacing these you should be doing the whole spring, including the bushes, shocks etc. Its a dirty but relatively straightforward job and you can get the std springs from Craddocks or Paddocks. If its the front springs, for a diesel you need the 11 leaf springs and they are different part nos for l/h and r/h side. If you have the original springs on then its likely that the holes in the chassis for the bushes will be ovaled, so before driving in the new bushes, its worth reaming the holes (32mm reamer from memory). If the shocks are old, best way to get them out the bottom spring hanger is to burn the rubber out the bush. its al a clasic landy job - all crash bash, cut, burn rather than any finesse! Hope this helps:)

More importantly let's discuss your user name. What dogs you got. What are they called. Post a pic :)

I have 3 dogs 2 spaniels and a lab (see attached.) all a rather Chocolate colour !

Oh myyyyyyyy  we're going to be friends :D I have a choccy lab too :bounce:

Ah, but are yours as insane as Rosie's eating machine?:D
By the way, BB is taken as a name, one of them will have to change to avoid confusion. I suspect both of them like cake!

Nobody has a Hoover lab like mine :D yes We can't have two BB's... There was another Rosie signed up t'uther day and when I said hello it felt like I was talking to myself

Such cute spaniels!!! Raff is cute too :D Was the colour choice accidental? ;)

Mostly accidental BB (Barnaby or Beans depending how naughty he is being) was the only chocolate spaniel in the litter (dont tell me spaniels are liver - it says chocolate on the KC certificate, but it does cheer me up to have the argument occasionally).

I tended to gravitate to other chocky dogs - got a lab as I went training with Raff's mum and she was just lovely.

Ruby was a late addition, we fostered her after she was found dumped in a quarry by the dog warden and found kennels too stressful - she just never ended up leaving.

Attempting to break the world record for the quickest meal eaten would seem to be something they probably have in common then !

You can't beat a choccy lab. Mine is currently eating a football. It's keeping her quiet though so I'm letting her :D

Three spaniels, if they're as bonkers as mine you must have your hands full.

Good work on the landy. Post plenty of photos!

Welcome along sir. Another Series LR being lovingly brought back to life. Great !!

Looking forward to meeting you and your pooches out and about.
