Thanks Turboman you're making my evening! Lol.
I would seriously just fit a tdi as you may end up chasing problems with the 2.5 n/a.
I'm not set up to do engine swaps. I think I shall try and rescue this first. If it is just the head gasket and I'm hoping that's the most it is. I'd rather sort that and go from there.
I'm only using this Landy as a hobby drive ( sunny days and club meets )
Just a thought, but if the revs are racing away, have you checked for sticking throttle cable?
When you have done the gasket, try and find out where the air is getting in to the fuel system, often ther wil be fuel leaking at the same ?
Anyone following this thread may like to know that as far as I can ascertain I don't think air was getting into the fuel system. After manually priming each time I couldn't work out why after a few minutes the engine would stall and need repriming.
I think the lift pump needs replacing as the 'cam connection' doesn't appear to be working nearly as well as the priming side.
Il update when replaced.
pretty sure braided can let air in
i've used this stuff before with no issue, however if in a few days if you see a fireball over notts/derby, you'll know it didn't work and finally had enough.
