Hi

ive just modded my v6 inlet manifold ,going to refit asap

but how will i know if it sealed correctly?

noise? what

The engine won't idle at the correct speed if air bypasses the throttle plate. If the leak is sizable, the engine might even race.
How did you seal the plenum?

i used a quality sealant ,left to go tacky as instructions said (10 ten) screwed the top back on as tight as i could ,left it to dry over night then put a bead of plastic weld all round the joint

It sounds like you have sealed it well. What sealants did you use out of interest?

cant remember name lol got it from a rally car shop cost 40 euro a tube so better be as good as they said lol nearly a third of what i paid for the car lol

Bugger Bugger Bugger

i have a leak :0(
ALL WAS WELL ON TICK OVER BUT WHEN I REV IT I GOT A VERY HIGH PITCH NOISE LIKE WHISLE

after taking engine cover back off i think ive tracked the leak, but not where ive done the mod

i think its from round the vis seal,or the pipe going into the vis ,i broke the red clip that holds the pipe ,been into holland today to try and find a new clip but no joy yet

but why would the vis leak? i refitted the rubber seal and after cleaning the vis i resealed it

What did you reseal the VIS motor casing with? A thin bead of silicone will do the trick here.
The rubber seal to plenum should be reusable. However I would expect to hear a leak at idle, not when revved. Could the noise be coming from the alternator? They are known to whine sometimes.

no def round the vis area ,i will take a vid later and post it on idle and then once I've rev it a little

you should be able to hear it its a very high pitched whistle noise

and once ive rev the car the noise stays even on idle

See if the noise is there after you have unplugged the VIS motor connection.

right take 2 lol

started car and let it idle for ten mins then took this vid (if vid not play please pm me as i changed the settings in my photobucket lol)

as you can hear def a high pitch whisle noise lol

turned car off, restarted her rev her a fair bit and

:):):):) yay and that horrible rattle/tappet noise is gone :):):)

next thread will be the oil leak ive spotted lol deep joy

Did you find the cause of the whistle? It sounds like it's running on 6 cylinders in the last vid. The tappet has gone quiet too. I wonder if it had a sticking valve. That would cause the noise and 5 cylinder running.

I had a second hand KV6 do that. Fired up on 5 cylinders with a ticking tappet, ran it for a while so I could check everything was connected correctly, suddenly tappet noise stopped and it ran on 6 just like that. I don't think they like to be left, un-run for a while.

yes it was a clip on the vis that had not closed down 100 percent ,which is strange seeing i sealed it as well with sealant ,but as soon as i pushed that down all good
