Can anyone tell me if this is normal

I have a vibration which I believe is coming from the front right. ( not certain as you could convince yourself its coming from front or transmission)
The vibration seems like a type of bearing or UJ.
I have fitted a brand new front prop shaft although the old one looked fine as does the rear.
I have had a complete set of Timken wheel bearings fitted on the front but I still have this vibration. Ball joints etc all appear to be fine. wheels are balanced but its not a wheel balancing type of vibration.
I jacked up the front right wheel, drivers side for UK, passenger side for me LHD. I started the engine, engaged 1st gear and the wheel spins. To me it sounds like a bit of a weird noise coming from it. I was wandering why if its a four wheel drive the other wheels didn't drive it off the jack.
I did the same with the other front wheel, jacked it up and engaged gear etc. This time the other wheels did drive it off the jack. Couldn't spin the wheel free at all. Is this normal before I set fire to it.

Sounds like a broken shaft/cv joint or sheared drive flang [emoji375][emoji383]

Would that be on the wheel that spins without being driven off the jack and makes a funny sound?

one spinning wheel should take drive from all others if diff lock is off.

Diff lock was off when the front right spins and the other wheels did not engage. When I tried the left hand side front the other wheels drove it off the jack. Any suggestions where to start looking anyone.

quick overview.

diff in axle allows one wheel to spin, the one with least resistance.

center diff allows power to go to the axle with the least resistance.

so one wheel spinning knocks landy out.

diff lock locks the center diff so 50% of power goes to the front and rear axle.

which means at least one wheel on each axle will spin.

do the same to the front right. do they both seem to spin as freely as each other?

can you make the noise when hand spinning?

I only tried hand spinning the front right when I was taking the wheel off. No noises and it was possible to hand spin the wheel.

I never tried to hand spin the other side when I jacked that side up. As soon as I engaged gear the other wheels drove it off the jack. But not the same on the front right.

get out and do it then. out of gear and handbrake off

if no wierd noises or stiffness.

try diff lock test. stick in diff lock, handbrake off, in neutral. chock wheels, jack up a wheel and hand spin. it shouldn't spin like before.

LOL, will do first thing tomorrow morning. Too ****ed to do it now.

Well, according to my Land Rover guy the front wheel that spins when its raised off the ground and a gear is engaged is the one that is working correctly. The front wheel when raised and when a gear is engaged and drives off the jack is the one where I have a problem. He thinks the problem is most probably in the front Diff. We will know more tomorrow.

if you jack any one wheel up with center diff lock not engaged all drive should be lost through that wheel as it spins , it may well sound noisier than normal as center and axle diff will be spinning fast , if underr the same circumstances you have drive through the other wheels the jacked up one must be been prevented from turning ie brake jammed on ,cv or shaft jammed, i cant see it been the diff if opposite wheel has drive in when its the one jacked up

Well, I hope your right as my front diff is a Salisbury so if it does have a problem I would think its going to be more expensive than if its a cv or shaft. All this has come about as a result of a vibration problem I have which I think is coming from the front.

you can get rear sals diffs cheap which fit the front , but i cant quite see how a diff can seize for one side and not the other,

Have you checked the disc and caliper on the sticky wheel?
