Finally today made a little progress and i now fully understand how one small job turns in to more and more and more!
Pre-christmas we set about replacing the front discs and pads on the 110, what an ordeal that became!
Firstly the drivers calliper was seized so we ordered two more to replace the fronts. Set about removing the drivers calliper and the retaining bolts were rusted to hell as well as seized to high heaven! Tried all sorts of sockets but had no luck.
Skip forward a few weeks and we tried again in better weather but the limited access and knackerd bolt heads meant it was impossible!
Skip forward another few weeks and we attempted to hack apart the caliper leaving us with only the back half of the calliper still attached to the swivel housing. Tried drilling out the bolts and retapping a new bolt in to it to undo the others...nope no luck!
Meanwhile tried to overhaul the rear brakes during all this resulting in almost all new components, new brake lines and a new master cylinder as the original failed.
Today we had to remove the whole swivel housing and even with an impact driver, brute force, wd40 and heat we couldnt get the bastard two bolts free! Ended up hacksawing the calliper to bits so we could get side access to the bolt heads, grinding them off and smashing the remaining piece of calliper off. This left us with two smooth stubs we could get an irwin bolt extractor on it plus impact driver and a breaker bar...finally got it free! Now we've got to possibly replace the swivel ball and all seals and gaskets just for a bloody brake change!
Can you give me some help actually. We are struggling to find some swivel balls/kits. It is an e reg 110 - 1988. The swivel ball looks like this...
Any idea what to look for? Also i have a feeling that it may be an old design and has since been updated?
Finally time for a beer when im back home!!!
