Hi

i tried the search thingy but no real joy,

Anybody know why a 24 spline detroit locker would stay engage even when no power/drive ?

As it seems to be on all the time even if coasting round a bend..

and part 2 of my question is are they expensive to fix ?

many thanks

a detroit is engaged all the time, until it disengages when cornering on surface's with grip ie. tarmac roads,
if working properly you should be able to jack the rear of the vehicle off the floor and turn one wheel whilst holding the other stationary, after overcoming the resistance in the locker

yh i thought that,

apparently both wheels still spin when jacked up,
other side cant be held.

im guessing its expensive to repair

sorry for sounding so dumb never used one before..

so it may take a fair bit of holding to release ?

also is it normal to make noise whilst turning,

will do am flicking pages as im at work lol..

trying to gauge wether its worth taking a punt on this locker..

on looking at it no teeth are missing and it looks good as new,
just states it did not dis-engage
and makes a large bang somtimes going round corners ??

oh right, you are looking to buy a iffy one.. thought you had one installed.

yeah, dunno, pass, good luck :D

lol

sounds like he did nt install it correctly !
as the receipt is genuine ( just had nt fitted and run it before warrenty )
nothing looks missing, nothing bent or damage.

or im guessing he was just not used to driving a fully locked diff ?

i was just unsure of the loud bang part on turning ?
wondered if anyone had one fitted on here.

They make a clicking noise when turning and sometimes a bang when it locks back up again
Ive one fitted in the rear of my 110 its a good bit of kit in my opinion

When our if you find this out give me a shout mate, mine are trashed too. As for the banging and clicking that seems pretty standard mine could be a right noisy bastard at times, but remember they don't like dirty oil, no need to do the synthetic stuff as some will tell you but regular oil changes quietened mine down considerable just using bog standard ep90.

Had one for five years, love it, and the Trutrac LSD in the front :)

Bit of banging and clunking is normal. You will minimise it by a very light foot on the throttle in bends. I don't get much of a problem as my 90 only makes about 85 horse, the noises are much more noticeable with Td5.

Also, you need perfectly matched tyres, make, wear and pressure, to make a Detroit acceptable on tarmac.

You should be able to get parts from an Eaton agent, try google search on that one. They normally only need repair if seriously abused, though, they are tough things.

I have a full Detroit locker sat in my shed as I fit air lockers, when mine used to clunk it was time for an oil change. Spairs are hard to come by now I think crown Diffs shut up shop, my full Diffs available for £250 I your wanting it as a spair or a full diff and yours as a spairsthe face needed to unlock was a lot and it goes with a bang even on axle stands
