V6 Possible alternator symptoms

When I turn my blowers on, the revs jump up.

This never happened in my previous V6, so my thinking is: either this is a new thing with the facelift or the alternator is faulty and isn't producing enough juice.

Also I have a rev based whining noise when the engine is hot which I suspect is the alternator. The belts and pulleys have been replaced, as has the auto oil, but the noise still happens.

Just curious if these are connected, or is there something else I should be looking at?

when the blower is turned on the revs are supposed to go up slightly to increase the alternators output

happens on mine , u may have a ptc heater it goes from 750 rpm to 850 rpm , when u turn the fan on the ptc heater kicks in

Also pretty sure I don't have a PTC heater. I have to wait until the engine has been at temperature for a while before I get any heat at all into the cabin.

Any suggestions about the whining? Belts and pulleys etc. have all been changed.

If you have it set to demist this automatically brings the air con on

The revs increase slightly when I put the air con on on my v6. I can film it if yer wants. Yer only notice it when the engine is warm as when it's cold the revs are slightly higher on tick over until it's warmed up.

first check the voltage is correct going to the battery if still you suspect the alternator there is a good check , wait until it dark which is not hard this time of year, then start it up and put all the lights and everything else you can then put your foot on the brakes which take a bit more current and the look at the ignition light is it glowing ,if it is then you alternator is starting to go. hope this helps

The V6 alternator can whine. My ZS180 did it, it wasn't problem. The revs will climb slightly as power drain increases. This is normal. If you are worried, you can measure the battery voltage with a multi meter. A reading of around 14 volts would be about rite. Switch on lots of electrical stuff and monitor the results.
