I'm a fairly new owner of a Defender 110 hi-cap 300Tdi, 1997 vintage. I don't use it every day, mostly at weekends. About 10 days ago I looked under the bonnet and it was fine, though after that I did drive about 30 miles at speeds of up to 60mph. The hi-cap doesn't seem to overheat; the temperature gauge sits rock solid in the middle of the dial whatever I do. There is nothing obviously wrong with the engine other than a squeal that seems to be coming from the tensioner bearing.

Today I opened the bonnet to add some blue coolant, as I had noticed the level was low, and was surprised to see pink residue all over the front near-side of the engine bay. Any idea what this is? I'm guessing that it's, well, pink coolant. If it is coolant, where is it coming from and how do I fix it? Photos below show the mess.

Thanks in advance.

Coolant leak - I would start with the hose where the cable tie is and see if its perished / attached properly. Clean it up with a damp cloth, start engine, run for a bit and see where it leaks!! or squeeze hoses a bit......

Thanks everybody. I will check the hose that looks to be a bit perished. Does anybody know what it's called? I've just had a look at secion 26 of the workshop manual and there's a nice picture but I can't work out which hose it is.
