Hi All, I have a 110 with a 3.9 V8 with a LT85 box, the output shaft is completely worn and the splines are about to let go, the gear box works fine and I wanted to know if anyone has replaced the output shaft and how difficult it is and if specialist tools are needed, also if it's a false economy and I should just send it to Ashcrofts and have it rebuilt?
Assuming this can be done DIY how easy is it to update the transfer box to utilise the part that allows lubrication of the output shaft?
Thanks

,you can fit cross drilled gear to the transfer box (depending on age of t/box)or fit oil thrower plate to aid spline lubrication , box does need stripping to change mainshaft , a split case 22c is easier to change shaft on than solid case 20c , you dont need special tools but access to puller kits or press, the key with an lt85 is setting selectors which needs knowledge or a book

Hi Jamesmartin,
Thanks for your response, I will check the transfer box I think it's an LT23, in respect of the rebuild I'm thinking if it's a total strip down to get to the main shaft I may as well have it rebuilt. I'm not sure if I'm being lazy or a chicken!!?? It sounds like a big and techy job?? I've a full manual so I guess I should read it and see if the job is just a bit too scary or if the cost justifies me doing it!?
Thanks
