wax oil/ schultz stonechip or nothing at all.

Hello there.
Not been on here for a while, I was just after thoughts/opinions on whether to wax oil or stonechip a galvanised chassis. Would you guys bother or leave it as is. Any thoughts or opinions etc would be much appreciated.

I think that the idea is that you should paint it with anything to stop it looking like a new galv chassis. And therefore most desirable to thieves. It sort of follows that you shouldn't paint it nicely either, so some flakey rust-coloured stuff would be correct.

Depressing isn't it? I'm just about to order a new chassis too.

I think you might get hammered and told to do a search.
There is a fair bit of info regarding painting etc.
From what I've read lots say don't do anything as it's going to be 30 or so year before it starts to corrode.

Some say paint it or wax oil so that the bright metal doesn't attract unwanted attention.

If you are going to paint you need to t-wash / mordant treat it so you get a bond with whatever you are putting on it.

strangely enough, the VW crowd can buy rust paint, and they think its cool....


maybe our mindset is all wrong, we should view rusty landies as cool bro...

thats the merkin rust patina, merkins dont get proper rust like we do, they usually end up with a surface panel "rust" rather than our proper rot.

I went a bit OTT but painted the chassis with T-wash, primer, chassis black and then the Waxoyl/Hammerite stuff.

We have enough problems with the local tealeaves as it is, I don't want them to know there is a galv chassis hiding underneath.

galv has to be under severe eletrolytical action not paint to erode that quick
