My new Defender!

I have upgraded, and this one is a keeper:

1996 300Tdi Ninety.
The main decider was that it has only done 56,000kms (34,000 miles for you Brits) from new.

Well... I've figured out how to make the images big, but they seem to have turned out huge! It's too hard for me.

In any case,

The good:
- It has only done 56,000 kms (34,000 miles) from new, and so the overall condition is excellent.
- No rust in chassis or bulkhead.
- All electrics work.
- Owner was an enthusiast and serviced it regularly.
- Custom breathers fitted to diffs, gearbox and petrol tank
- De carbon steering damper and +2 inch shocks and springs fitted
- Has a couple of nice features like central locking, fusion speakers with a good quality stereo and upgraded headlamps.

The bad:
- Roof lining sags
- There are signs of aluminium-steel corrosion in a few spots
- Left rear capping is rusted and needs repairing.
- Bonnet and left front wing have some dents


I have to say that I can see what people mean when they say the standard of painting declined over time on Defenders. On my 1986 Ninety, there is no corrosion between steel and aluminium (and of course the cappings are galvanised).

Apart from fixing those issues, I also want to recoat the chassis with underseal like I did with my Ninety when I first got it. I also need to swap across all the bolt-on bits on my old Ninety that I want to keep before selling it.

Hang on a minute while I adjust my specs... Ok, ready, now I KNOW that this is a favourite question posted on LZ, very popular one to ask, and I think it is a legitimate question given the enormity of your vehicle, "what size tyres" are you going to put on that mate?

Laughs aside, it's a decent looking 90 (in proportion!) I can see why it would be one to keep. Congratulations

I will be swapping the current wheels which are fitted with Kumho tyres onto my 1986 Ninety to sell it and keeping the genuine Land Rover wheels which are currently on my Ninety (and which are fitted with brand new BFG 235 85 R16 AT tyres)
