ABS light

[Grrrrrr]

RR P38 2.5DT (1995).

Missus tells me that while driving along the ABS light came on for a minute or so but then went out again. Been out in it this evening but couldn't replicate. Loose connection on a sensor somewhere perhaps? Where is the sensor exactly?

There are 4 wheel speed sensors....mounted on the inside of the hubs.

There is also the brake pressure sensor and all the associated gubbins in the valve block.

The P38 ABS system is notoriously sensitive, moderate braking and going over a small bump or drain cover can cause the ABS system to activate....

Most common reason for the lamp is low battery voltage or brake hydraulic pressure is low....maybe from a tired accumulator or boost pump.

Brake switch failing or out of adjustment can cause this.

She hadn't started the engine and sat in it idling for a minute had she? Think you need to be doing over 7 mph to put the light out Just a thought or am I judging her on my experience of the fairer sex.

It's a mistake made by a few MOT testers also.

First thing I asked her. No, it was half-way through the journey. Only came on for a minute or two. No faults recorded anywhere.

Brake switch should be easy to find! I'll whip the wheels off and see if there's anything nasty near the sensors. That should be pretty quick too. After that I guess it is a case of wait and see when it next occurs.

There's a brake pressure sensor in the valve block? The EAS valve block?

It's a mistake made by a few MOT testers also.

Correct, happened to me once, he got a real earful. Still take the motor back there and never been a problem, guess he remembers his lesson

No, the Brake Pressure sensor is on the boost pump....and I was referring to the ABS Valve Block....
