To fit the new belt, get it on all the pulleys except the tensioner pulley (the smooth one with holes in). Then make sure it's nice and tight.
Get a 15mm spanner out, put it on the tensioner pulley nut with the tail of the spanner going out to the right as you look at it. The pull up on the spanner hard, as if you were trying to undo it. What you're doing is moving the tensioner pulley upwards on its arm, when you've got it high enough you should be able to slip the belt under it and then let it back down again.

Cheers guys, I got the belt back on but then it immediately came off due to the pulley to the above right of the tensioner becoming stuck? It was wobbling before I put the new belt on.

I'll try upload a picture

Yeah rang the AA should be here for 3:40pm

I think the water pump pulley is wobbling and when I put the new belt on it became dislodged and is now stuck so I can't get it back out to put the belt on.

Any reason for is being wobbly? It's the pulley at the very top of the engine near the air filter

Thanks for the quick responses btw :)

Bearings gone, with luck the belt going will have saved worse damage

As Beasty said .. no point trying to fix it roadside unless you have a new waterpump, it'll only screw something else up as the belt will probably fall off straight away anyhow!

AA are here now. Trying to phone an auto spares company to get a new water pump

Does anyone local have one I could buy?

Definitely my water pump, off to an aautospares company now they have one for £25.

The lad at AA is really helpful he's tracked down the part for me and he's taking me for the part now!

We got 2 of the bolts on the pulley off and the last one he rounded

He's still trying now to get the rounded bolt off but where do I stand? Are they liable to pay the garage fees because he rounded it?

Think I'm getting tower home and being given a courtesy car

I never gave him any grief he was brilliant and even sortede out a part. Just wondered if they're liable to pay the garage fees for the bolt removing if I can't get it off at home. He said I could try get it off with my angle grinder so I'm gonna give that a go.

I didn't catch his name but he was really helpful. We had to use my snapped belt as leverage so that the pulley wouldn't spin so we could get attempt to remove the bolts.

Just waiting for a tow truck now and he sorted me a courtesy car out that I'm picking up at 7pm.
