Hi lads I've had my p38 for nearly 3 years now and I have enjoyed it everyday(well most of them)it's been a bloody good motor much better than I thought it was going to be if I am honest,it's got nearly 360k on the clock and runs sweet as a nut but it's time for a change, looking at L322 td6 around the 2004,2005,2006 year, took a 2004 td6 met grey with the cream leather interior with 190k on the clock it was mint condition,I couldnt believe the difference between that and the p38 a completely different beast but the service history was patchy so I had to put my sense able head on and walk away, now bearing in mind over here in pt L322 start at about 18500€ for a 02 model so its a big jump price wise from the p38s,I've read all I can on buyers guides on this site and others but if any body has anything else to add big or small on helping me narrow my search down on buying one I am all ears, cheers lads, lance

Lots of info on this matter as a few other members have also made the move to an L322

Td6 is a great motor, only let down is that the gearboxes on them are rubbish, they generally fail at around 90k

So make sure yours has a recon gearbox when you get it then you should be good to go ;)

Good luck

How good are the local main dealers or indys in Portugal??? As you will need a good one for the L322 if you can't spanner yourself of have your own diagnostics...

Great cars, but can be a pain when they go wrong if you haven't got a good garage to assist.

TD6's suffer gearbox issues so ensure you get one that has been looked after and had the box fluid changed.....they tend to fail 80-90k miles

Thanks for the replys lads, forgot Indys over here the main dealers are pretty good and a hell of a lot cheaper to pay than in the uk but there isn't a lot of them so it means travelling,to be honest all the ones I've seen for sale have done more than a 100k(miles)so the boxe should have been changed but I will check,I will be buying from a dealer so it will have full 12month warranty so if the box hasn't gone bang I will make sure it does during the warranty period,I know I've said it before but what a difference compared to the p38,I am really looking forward to getting my grubby little hands on one!

There is a LHD one on ebay for 8500 item number 181368518168 - 88000 miles

Gearbox will go bang - so get it done here in the UK - 2k normally

you will probably get the car for 8 - so 10k - better than 18k euros in Portugal

Cheers for that griffman but it costs far to much to bring them in to pt with thier so called CO2 emissions import tax, when I moved over here 4 years ago I had a 2006 90 defender and they wanted 12,000€ plus fees to keep it here, have a quick look on some of the expat forums about it,it's illegal what they are doing and they get a big fine every year from Brussels but they make more than what the fine is,I've got my old Lotus over here with me still on its uk plates hidden away in a garage hoping that the rules will change in the future and I can drive her around again !!!

Luckily the dealer I will be using gives me a bullet proof warranty,I bought my p38 of him and he was good to his word well for a year anyway and he is glad to take it in part ex,I'm getting 7000€ not bad at all seeing as I paid 9500€ nearly 3 years ago
Good to see you have some back up transport for when the L322 throws a wobbly:rolleyes:
