Alternator, Glue it up?

I kinda broke the corner off my alternator and was looking for tips on reattaching it. I've had a google and people say, Super Glue or JB weld Epoxy Adhesive, are these products sufficient or is there a better way.

for peace of mind and longevity I would look at getting it ally welded if at all possible. You may need a specialist welder though as they may need correct filler rods (I'm not a welder - yet!). not sure glue would be too reliable as there will be a fair bit of force on the joint.

Would it not be possible to find a knackered alti and change internals?

not sure I would trust a "glued" bracket.

I would personally weld it or change it. I would imagine that there are a lot of different stresses on this bracket. Compression and vibration stresses will be affecting it all the time.

From a scrap one, no doubt a scrappy would charge you for it if you can't find one from a mate.

is that one of the mounting holes or the hole for the adjuster bar


If its the adjuster hole is there enough alloy left to drill another hole for now

Sadly it's a mounting hole, will give the scrappies a call tomorrow and see if they got any in, failing that I'll see if somebody can weld it as sadly I've only got a MIG welder with steel wire.

if its the 16acr I've probably got a few scrappers kicking about, can remove a front plate and stick in post for yer if needed.
old fiesta alternators fit as well, iirc you may need to swing the front plate round so brackets line up. better output on them too!

I finish work at 10 and I'll have a peek and see if it's a 16acr, I presume it's written on the Alternator?

looked like a series alternator from the pics. if so, I have a few.
(not guaranteed to work, but front housing will be the same. could strip a housing front and mail that, or a complete lump, depends on postage costs or if one turns up locally to you)

This brought back memories .Mine broke on way home from Edinburgh late at night.Temp fix- 2 skipping ropes lashed over top of engine to tension. Made it back to Barnsley .Wouldn't recomend it though.
For a while I got away with a stip wrapped around the broken bit ( in place ) and small self tappers holding it to the casing.
It's a replacement eventually though ,sorry

Well sadly the plate on the unit is wiped clean, that old I think. I took some pics and hopefully one of yours matches.

Just put a new one in - they're not that expensive.

remember that insert on the rear mount is adjustable so you dont strain the casing,it might need a light tap with a hammer dont rely on it moving buy its self
