Seriously considering a Disco 2 ......... Having heard all the TD5 horror stories I'd just like to know how many of you TD5 owners would buy another :)

I did. I sold my first a couple of years ago along with my van and bought a Ranger to do the job of both. The moment the new owner drove it away I pined for it, so last June I bought another. It's an auto like it's predecessor and I love it, there's just something about the way you feel when driving them.

Sounds crazy but it is true! My Disco is for keeping as long as it is viable. Bought it 9 months ago and still love it. Just do your research and make sure you get a good one.

get 1 bought! then you can answer your own questions! or ask on here!

Seems like a plan :)

A friend recommended looking at a Nissan Terrano . but after looking at one Ide rather have a broken Discovery than a working Terrano
Ive had my fair share of Fenders and Series but I've no experience with electrickery ECU gizmos ,

Think I'm about to find out :D

We've got two D2 V8's in the family and a Defender 110 CSW, previously an 88" Series III and the remnants of a 109" Safari Wagon, plus a 109" 2.6 litre Series III, so we have a bit of history with Landies! ;)

Nothing super-difficult with the D2, most of ours have been pretty good, we've done 62k miles in ours, a lot of towing, plus we have a small mountain of spares that we have collected for that rainy day, but so far mines been good, Philips was like the Torrey Canyon with a bad rear main leak and Rob's Fender had a new galvanised chassis after we bought it as a CAT C write-off.

With RAVE and Microcat on the PC and a Hawkeye, there isn't a lot you cannot do yourselves. D3/D4 are already getting a bit of a reputation for being 'DIY-unfriendly', so I'd try and keep my D2 on he road as long as I can.

Spares chassis going in soon, probably at the end of the summer, look out for an article on that!

Yep....im goin to keep mine as long as possible and if it has to go for any reason, I will be looking for another, fantastic vehicles. Before I got mine I would change my car every year,2 years at most....had my disco 2 now for 5 years.

I shouldn't think I'll buy another one - there's nothing drastically 'wrong' with them and I really like the Storm engine but I was expecting a bigger step up from the Disco 1 and it all feels much the same, even in ES form.

Go for it!! ive had 5 now, i just do not see the point of spending £30 - £40k on a car that does 6ooo a year, mrs won't drive it! and they are pretty simple really, everything you need to know is usually on here and the knowledge on here is excellent!! just look hard before you hand over the cash!

I had one, pretty much everything that you read on here that could go wrong on it went wrong. It could have been used as a training vehicle for mechanics! Used to joke that with all the replaced parts on it, it was practically a new one. Sold it and got another, because I'm stupid. This one has been a dream. Never let me down, only service items needed apart from a brake calliper.

You've had 5 of them! How come you've changed so often?

I've had 2 300 tdi Discos and this is my first td5. I've only had it a few weeks but I would certainly get another. Like any second hand car, sometimes you are lucky and sometimes not.

The problem is that finding a good Disco 1 is getting harder. Time marches on. There are lots of bodged rusty ones out there with high mileage so a Td5 will look a better option. In a few years time even a good Td5 will be rare. The newest ones are 10 years old now. In a few years time Disco 3s will be knocking about on eBay for about £5000 and we'll be driving those.
