D2 Who would buy another

I bought mine new almost 14 years ago and would do anything to keep it going. I have already replaced its chassis for a new galv. one. and it has done 220,000+ miles! I go over to France at least twice a year and in May I am taking it to Germany - usual trip is between 2 and 3 thousand miles and it has never let me down. Fingers crossed! I love it.

Now that says it all!

I don't expect to have to but I would.

I'd have another one, knowing what I know now and joining LZ etc. no worries. There is something about just driving it that's fun..

Those of us of a certain age will remember that as kids, before the internet and video games, we used to have great fun building dens - either digging them out of the ground or just propping planks of wood/pallets up against trees etc...... A Disco is just like a big, comfy den. With wheels...

i think the most difficult thing after owning a D2 is what to buy next without breaking the bank! Mine is 13 years old now and i can't get excited about anything else to replace it with at the moment and don't have RR Sport money i'm afraid, very difficult so going to stick with what i have at the for now which is fine!

I fully understand that feeling.

The simple answer is that there's simply nothing out there to come close to the Disco 2 in terms of all round value, comfort, practicality and the most important one of all....sheer driving pleasure. Look after it and it'll look after you. And I've had loads of D2's. I once had something else and went straight back. Even the D3 doesn't come close.

changed so often?? 1st was 15 years ago, 2nd was a 2002 facelift brand new £29,950 got divorced so ex mrs took that! (biatch) 3rd was 2005, 4th lasted a fortnight, auto, problems!! so garage took it back/refund sept 2012, 5th oct 2012! and it's been ok, although i have gone through it all slowly but surely, i have a van so only gets used weekends, but better than 30 - 40k sat doing bugger all,

I cannot see us going up to a D3/D4, or even a RR Sport.

L322 might be possible, but the cost of bills at the stealers puts me off.

Some of these early models are quite cheap to buy, but the thought of having a RR Sport TDV8 and being told the body has to come off to get the warped exhaust manifolds off just makes me cringe.

D2's for now, and if the chassis swap goes OK then I'll be set until I'm mid 70's and will probably give up lugging the big engines around, so can drop down to a nice little Nissan Micra

My old D2 was the best LR I've ever owned and I'd have another without batting an eyelid - if only I could find a late model TD5 Commercial for the right price/condition.....

I found one just before the end of last year
53 plate (120,000) for 3k

Bought mine as a 1 owner. Trouble is it was a Scottish Farmer! So slowly going through it to get it up to scratch as I can't afford to replace it.

Also slowly "de-restricting" the engine.

If £7K or £8K dropped into my lap and I could only use it to buy a car I would get another for best and use Snotbucket as a "van".

I would be looking for a "skool run" TD5 7 seater 15p with ACE (mine hasn't) and all the bells and whistles (but not bothered about snooze control). Any colour except bloody white.

I could then have one off the road and run the other, giving me chance to swap to galvanized chassis.

So that's another "yes".

A friend recommended looking at a Nissan Terrano . but after looking at one Ide rather have a broken Discovery than a working Terrano
Ive had my fair share of Fenders and Series but I've no experience with electrickery ECU gizmos ,

Dont' be harsh on the Terrano,I had three as company vehicles and towed one half ton trailer every day.
Only faults I had were, I a ripped a clutch out on soft ground,and the alarm went off on one when very wet.
Awfull looking truck I think,but defo more reliable than a disco any day..

I've had 2 D2 TD5's a GS manual then an ES auto which I swapped for an L322 Rangie.

Can't say I would personally spend 7/8k on a D2, you're bordering on basic D3 territory there.

But another yes from me, I'd have another one
