hello people , my 1st post so please be gentle.

it looks like i could get offered a discovery soon that i have been bleating on about for the past year.

the million dollar question is how much would you pay?

discovery 1 200tdi
5 door
j reg
all completely standard except range rover leather interior.
all panels are dead straight
very nice gloss black paint
white decals all good the whole length.
air con and electric seats working
around 155000 miles
just motd this week with small welding to floor.

slight drip from sunroof and a bit of roof liner coming away in the back.

i have not had the chance to lift carpets yet or inspect under bonnet.
i have had a quick nose underneath and under wheel arches, doesnt look bad.
my friend has owned it for the last 4 years and is the sort of person that if something needs doing it goes straight to the garage.

cut a long story short...would you pay anywhere near £1700 for it?

thank you

I paid £1200 for my 300 tdi 5 door. 146k with 12 months mot after having the welding done. Inner arches are a bit scabby but nothing too bad.

That's just to give you a price idea really.

If it were a mint low mileage one I would say that's OK. But that is far too expensive, or if it was tricked up to the hilt then maybe. I agree that half that is probably top whack for it.

Tend to agree with others here - Id expect to see that advertised at around the 950 mark with offers.

Sure its a lot of car for the money but D1s and early D2s are pretty cheap (to buy at least!) across the board.

I think I paid pretty decent money for my 300 - and she's a 98R with 170k, pretty solid, never welded, and she cost me £1400...

Mine is a j reg. I paid 900 for it.Very very little rust. One owner from new, full service history and it turned 86000 miles as I drove it home. It was taxed and mot'd as well. 1700 sounds a little steep to me.

Obviously condition is everything when considering price for a vehicle of this vintage these days. So only having a really good look in the flesh can determine what it's worth.

Although I tend to agree that £1700 is too much. Perhaps he's asking that and expects to settle on a price around the grand mark.

If I were selling and was happy to settle around the grand mark id be asking 1200. He says its a mate selling too.

£1700 does seem high now ive been looking around but i have just found this with bids on flea bay - paste this item number in...261386975228 and the one i am looking at is far better than this even if it is a year or 2 older.

That one has not been bid on mate - its had 3 offers - not surprising considering what he is asking! That is also crazy money with the miles and only 4 months test on it.

Although to be fair you might be able to flog the plate it comes with for a few hundred...

Sorry. Yes your right it is not bids its offers...
And yes I agree, that does look like crazy money for that.
Someone else has first refusal on the one I'm after and I think he knows a bit about land rovers so hopefully he's going to go in really low and bang the price right down for me just to offer a little more to bag a bargain.....
I'm really doing my homework now to find out the problem areas for rust so I can be a bit prepared...
