High Pitched Electrical Noise After Turning Ignition Off

Hi All.
Newbie Here! I bought a Freelander 1 last week. A 55 plate 2.0 TD4 manual HSE with 68k on the clock and have noticed that some times after turning off the ignition, there is an audible high pitched electrical noise coming from under the bonnet coupled with what sounds like a fan 'running on'. It lasts about 30 to 40 secs then it all stops with a click. I need to investigate further but I was wondering if anyone has heard of this issue as I assume its not normal?

Any pointers anyone please.

I have a lot to learn about Freelanders! Is this in the bay?
A mate suggested the air con condensor fan. Could it be that?

The FBH is under the near side front quarter.

Look for a small (about 25mm) exhaust port.

Its your fuel burning heater, its under the battery. You'll find the exhaust port sticking out the bottom of the front bumper in front of the NSF wheel

Yes - the noise seems to be coming from there. Is it normal for it to run on after turning the ignition off? If not - do you know how to fix it please.

yes its normal, as it has to cool down once engine is off, noise you can hear is the fan

Great. That's good to know. I was concerned it was gonna cost me......
Next decision - Do I change the VCU or not as there's no records its been changed. Must do some more reading on here. 68k done so the decision needs making sharpish.

Do Hippos test, then decide. 70k is only a guide, some last as long as 35k, and others as short a life as 120,000 miles or more

That'll be like saying that every K series petrol engine loses its head gasket at 40k as well, they're all different and a lot is user dependant

Ordered a reconditioned VCU and pair of bearings from Bell Engineering as my insurance policy!!. Will let you know how I get on.
