If you lift a wheel and spin up it will be of little benefit there has to be some resistance however you can greatly improve this by left foot braking (alot of trialers do this anyway with open diffs)

24 spline tho its well worth it 10 spline you have to be very careful left foot braking with open diffs!! Less so with ATB How do I know Errmm.............. I popped a shaft in a TYRO comp in the snow.

Yeah if i get one in the back I will be upgrading to 24 spline. besides you can't get a 10 sp ashcroft one. I understand it won't do much if I lift a wheel but that doesn't happen to me that often anyway. just nice for a bite more control on those steep hills, in mud and on uneven slopes. I also understand that having one only in the back won't really affect road handing at all?

No the back wont effect items ally its the fronts that want to pull straight, I've broke a few front cv joints in mine after fitting it.

24 spline axles have very weak cv joints

I have learnt this now and have adapted my driving to suit,

Whislt your around, do you have any idea as to why the 27mm locking nut on my rear diff that hold it all together keeps comin loose even with locktight?

Yeah I won't be having one in the front for a number of reasons. Oringally wanted an air locker but the cost is just not justified at the moment, with the cost of the air compressor and fitment and whatnot. Thanks for the help. Any other tips for these?

If your 10 plineim guessing you have drum brakes on te rear?

If so it would be best I think to just get a full rear axle from a 300 tdi then you will be 24 spline

Do you have std drum braked 10 spline rear axle??

If do you need 24 spline v8 90 err shafts I posted a link on a different thread recently if you fit any other later type of shaft from a later disk braked 24 spline you will
Need to change stub hubs for it to fit

yeah i realise that now. Thanks for all the help. After all that though I decided I am gonna get me 90 some new shoes instead, make the leap from some cheap at's to some nice cooper stts (I don't want anything more aggressive cos I don't want to sound like a helicopter going down the road). Thanks again. I would like to however in the future upgrade to a TD5 axle perhaps so I can go discs all round.

24 spline err end is a better stronger out the box setup with disk brakes the only thing I hate with the later axles is the hub bearing spacing is less giving less support for the hub very slightly not a lot but generally disc braked rear axle is a good step up in strength
