So I am fitting a new valve block this weekend. I have silicone grease to put on the lines as I fit them into the new block.

Is it a good idea to clean the ends before putting the silicone grease on? If so with What? WD40?

Just wipe the ends of the pipe with a clean cloth. Have a look to make sure that there's no damage and then be sparing with the grease as you don't want to get anything inside the pipes.
