Don't have a clue wat my mpg is. Not interested, it's not about miles per gallon it's all about smiles per gallon. They only came out with the mpg stats for women, men don't care about that kind of thing!!!! :D

Well you obviously have a lot more money than me - I have to care. I also find it a good indicator of the cars health.

lol, Is that pretty much a standard vehicle? I can see the snorkel but did you do anything else to it?
It had the snorkle, winch (which you can't see inthe pic :D) and high level lights when I got it, I think its got a bit of a lift but no more than 2". I fitted high level breathers to the diffs, gearbox and transferbox and timing belt case. Apart from that its standard.

y'know every says that.. smiles per gallon. maybe i'm just a grumpy git but i don't go around all day smiling when i drive my landy.

i enjoy it. it's nice to work on. it's great for what i use it for. do i become deliriously happy when i sit on the drivers seat?.. nope.

would i want to drive it on the motorway every day? nope

would i like better mpg? yup

maybe i really don't 'get it'

You should probably sell up lol.

My 300 averages around 20mpg  i guess thats what happens when you stick big tyres, a snorkel and lift kit on something that already has the aerodynamics of a fridge :D

need it for when it snows, humping wood, and it's easy enough to fix.

i wonder why i don't smile like a loon too. you lot don't have any funny vibrating devices in your seat bases do you?

Yo Chaps, some re-assurance needed please, looking at 1993 200tdi, only 83k on the clock, only had one owner from new, comes with one years MOT, i can not find any chassi rot and the interior is immaculate.

I guess im just a bit scared of the age, i was only 12 when that car was born.

Just looking for some confidance from other 200tdi owners.

Cheers

Looking at the pics it looks very clean.... but we know how miss leading they can be :D .... You'll see when you look round what is really like. Best of luck, everyone here has been super helpful with mine, which has basically taken over every waking minute of my life. If I'm not working on it I'm thinking about what else I can do to it :) they are a labour of love but the D1 is uber retro cool ..... and everything is fairly simple and easy to get to...... :D Let us know how you get on

lol, Yeah for about 3 months now im all about land rovers, The missus has already hit me with some comments and i dont even own one yet :lalala:

I do like the classic look of this one, Getting in it is like going back in time.:hippie:

My mechanic is coming with me tomorrow to give it one last look over for me.
All being i should be driving it home.

Just for further re-assurance to the OP, I've just picked up a '98 TDi 300 auto ES.

The sills are good, rear cross-member good, rear wheel arches broadly good, all body supports good, boot floor done, inner front wings - one good the other needs a small amount of repair, bumpers both good all pillar bottoms good.

The more interesting fact is that the EDC system has been removed, std pump TDi installed, cable-operated throttle pedal - no fancy injectors !

She drives very well but will be improved by a full service and a pump tune-up.

All electrical items operate correctly, so all being well after a 1000kms drive home she'll make an excellent 2nd car.

Pictures will follow when I'm back home.

Dave

Welcome to the club. And the not spending cash part... That will soon change!!! Haha. How's the body lookin? Arches, sills an boot floor???

Thanks, Cant stop grinning at the moment and i cant stop driving it either.

Arches and sills are all good no work needed for along time. Boot floor will need some welding as it has started to go but nothing major. There is a pin hole in the back box but i plan to replace centre and back box anyways.

Clutch all good nice and firm, gear box good no excessive play or crunching.

Its not long had a service so will run it for a month then change so i know whats in it.
