Much easier to just replace the O rings that do a perfectly good job.

Easier yes permanent no , unlike pressed fittings especially as the pipes are plastic and not metal.

They are 13 years old in mine and seal perfectly, that's permanent enough for me. Metal fittings on plastic pipes are not perfect either.

No, but the valve block is original and I didn't bother to replace the pipe rubbers when I did the rest.
The plastic pipes develop fatigue failures in metal fitting in my expereince.

Best reason for making them from stronger rubber

Bit of overkill to be honest. The standard system works well enough not to justify that Mod.
