no not at all but crawl under first grasp the prop firmly & twist it whilst looking at uj also pull twist and a good tug is the only way, check front & rear prop. sorry I know this thread is going to esculate nowThanks Wil, is that tricky to repair/replace?![]()
Thanks Wammers. Any way to check this item?
Jack a front wheel up to take load off, get under and have a feel at it. Check for ANY movement at all in the joints. If it's dry and squealing there should be some wear detectable. If it fails at speed it can do some serious damage under the car.
+1 first signs are cherping noise like a canary,as wammers said if failure occurs it can be serious inc injury could polevolt over + it smashes your geabox/transfer box to bits & leaves a nice hole in your floor aswellJack a front wheel up to take load off, get under and have a feel at it. Are you sure you have got a p38,what with your farting and whistling it could be a band!![]()
Usually there are signs of rust stains on the UJ if it's got to the stage of squeeling and you may not feel any play in the joint. Not good! Well I won't drive her until fault sorted, seeing a mechanic mate of mine on Tues, so if it needs doing and it doesn't cost too much, will get him to sort it.
Will spend next few days cleaning up interior, pretty sure last owner kept his horse in the car and not a horse box. :mil36:
You need both wheels on one axle off the ground to spin them and that will not turn the prop, all wheels off the ground and turn the prop, one wheel off you will be fighting the VCU.Thanks, will jack it up and hopefully spin the wheel!!!
It just gets better!
Bags me on the fiddle!!Lets do A LZ band,,,,, with Data on tambourine, actually should be the horn

Tested the VCU. Seems to be fine. Phew!
So just the UJ to get fixed.
If one has failed and the others look dry I'd be tempted to replace the lot at one go. They're not expensive, even 'heavy duty' ones, and if they haven't been greased the others are probably going to fail sooner or later. With the prop off replacing each joint should only take about 15 minutes. You might even consider replacing your doughnut whilst you're at it, it sounds like you intend to keep the car.
And you can **** everybody off with your bagpipes.Lets do A LZ band,,,,, with Data on tambourine, actually should be the horn
