Right looking to tdi the series 3 109, have a spare disco lt77 so am thinking of fitting, yes I have no front cv's but do have fwh...

So I'm thinking....

1) gear stick in much better position like my 110 - good

2) 5 speed matched to engine- good

3) slight loss mpg as constantly turning front diff / half shafts but no diff to disco

4) no front cv's but fwh should compensate as half shafts n diff will have no real load

5) will need to drill galv chassis to mount box .... Properly protected after so prob not an issue

Anything I've overlooked??

Cheers steve

1) defender gearstick position is better than disco position although I may have a disco to defender conversion set going spare soon, depends how I feel once my seatbox is mounted in my series with R380
3) you can get a 2wd kit for the LT230
4) will have to drive in diff lock if you disengage the FWH's
5) I just went with welding instead of drilling but rather than doing that you can make up adaptor plates to mount to the standard series crossmember

Missing - handbrake needs modding and custom prop lengths

What a dick I am lol course would need difflock lol I prefer the disco position in the 110 though, falls perfectly under the palm with arm on range rover arm rest .... Good point I could weld box mounts ... Hmmmm whether to drill n use defender mounts.... Drill n use disco x member ... Or weld... On the 110 I've used the disco r38 x member bolted through 3 of the 4 holes as they lined up .... Cheers doc

Haha fair enough, I'm undecided so far, disco shifter on the R380 box definitely have a smoother shift than the defender one it has ATM!

Welding is easier IMO just grind off some galv and wear a mask while you weld, I used an LT77 and R380 mount on my series when I mounted the new box

Doc what's the 2wd conversion, I know Ashcroft did one but don't believe they still do it? Is there someone else?

Cheers steve

Ashcroft did sell it but they also do a kit to put the series transfer on a 5soeed box so you can do it that way too and keep all the funky levers.

If Ashcroft no longer do it I'm not sure who else would but google may shed some light
